Up early again this morning getting ready for our final day in Christchurch before we headed back to Queenstown to finish our holiday..
We got up, packed our overnight bags, checked out of our hotel and got dropped off into the city to explore some more. We were a bit hungry so stopped into a lovely little cafe for breakfast, again seated by a fireplace as it was super cold but the sun was shining so it was sure to warm up throughout the day a tad.
We ordered a Big Breakfast that came with the usual bacon, eggs, hash brown and tomatoes with a nice glass of Orange, Pineapple and Mango juice all in one recomended by our waitress - It was actually yummy!
After finishing breakfast we had a breif chat with the waitress who was very familiar with Sydney, she used to live there for about a year before moving away as it was way to busy lol We asked her for directions to the tram line, which she gave but we got lost anyway. We tried to follow the tram line but due to all the heavy construction going on around the city we would come to dead ends where the tram line was blocked off due to road closures (we soon found out these constantly change as work progresses, so no-one really knows which roads are opened or closed) Eventually we found it, yay!
After boarding the tram which cost us $10, it took us 4 stops - a straight line to the end of the street that we boarded on, we could have walked it in about 8 minutes!! Ah well, it's the experience that counts right?
We hoped off the tram in search of the Gondola, the driver told us it was only about a 10 minute bus ride away but after walking half an hour around the city to find a bus stop we learnt that the place we needed to go to was much further away and probably not worth the cost, travel and general mucking around to get back so we went back to Container City had a wonder around, bought a few more things and then off to the Casino to win some big NZ money...at least we hoped too!
The casino felt like it was ages away, we had a general direction in which we needed to head toward but no real idea, I asked a construction worker if he knew where the Casino was but he was a bit of a tosser about it - first New Zealander I had come across that wasn't overly willing to be helpful. We eventually found our way about 25 minutes later and walked inside, of course i found the roullette table and after putting in $10 i won, $50 returned in my pocket..(well that's big winnings for me haha!) The lady was really cool that was operating our roullette table, she was sharing my excitement with me everytime i won more money, it made the game so much more enjoyable and in turn made us more willing to sit around the table and continue betting haha
We then had some lunch and then returned to the casino area for some more gambling, however we weren't as succesful this time. I ended up loosing $45 of my $50 winnings, but I had fun and at the end of the day walked away $5 richer than when i walked in so for me that was a success!
We then got picked up and started our return trip back home, I stayed awake for most of it this time. We stopped in at this olden town pub thing for dinner, big mistake. The guys in the bar were so creepy and the woman working behind the bar said we could order through her or go through to the kitchen to see the board of what they were serving so we went through to the kitchen - this was when s*** got freaky!
As we walk through the doors of the pub, past to toilets and through some creepy hallways with minimal direction there was a super long hallway with about 12 doorways either side that were motel rooms and all doors were open with the rooms empty, it was so weird. Why would the motel leave all the doors open? Anyway, we eventually made it alive into the kitchen, it was this dingey old run down place, looked totally creepy and the guy inside wasn't exactly welcoming either...We decided against eating there and tried to look for an escape exit to our car so we didn't have to walk back through the creepiness again but unfortunately there seemed to be only one way in and the same way out - deadset seemed like a scene from a creepy horror movie but we made it out alive - thank god!
We continued our drive home, conversation flowing before getting pulled over by the police. Yup, apparently speeding in NZ is not allowed either! Lol Ah well, another experience to add to the list :)
Quick takeaway dinner tonight at a place called FERGBURGERS once we arrived back into Queenstown, the place is always super packed whenever we go past, the burgers were nice though and the chips even better but super expensive, my burger cost me $13.50 just for your regular burger that you would find in any fish and chip shop - crazy..
Oh and Fyi - I won't ever complain of petrol prices in AUS again..Fuel here in NZ is $2.19 a litre, Fark!
Anyway, bed time for me.
Early morning again tomorrow as we finally make our way to the snow, yay so excited for that with another jam packed evening tomorrow :)
