6am start and we all manage to have some sleep for the 6 hour journey ahead. Arriving into siem reap bus station was a mass of taxi drivers and touts all trying to get your custom. Luckily I booked a pick up through the hostel and we have a free ride to Popular Guesthouse. Quick check in and change and we tuk tuk to the temples. We had a late start so missed the famous sunrise and only had 3 hours to spend roaming the temples. The ticket office was obviously confused that we were willing to pay the $20 admission for only 3 hours but the boys had limited time in siem reap as they had a flight in the morning. On the advice of our driver we cut out the smaller temples and head for Angkor Thom, the north gate and the kings palace firstky. A couple of hours of playing tomb raider and Indiana jones climbing all over the temples and we go for the grand finale at Angkor Wat. Once again climbing over the temples and marvelling at the incredible intricacy of the carvings still visible today all these years later. After walking around we settle down ready to watch sunset. Disappointing as the weather was so cloudy that it was impossible so we go back to the tuk tuk. A reccomendation by our driver to have dinner at a Khmer restaurant offering buffet of traditional foods finishing with a show Angkor themed. We are not disappointed with the food. A vast range of amazing foods- fruits and veges, soups, spring rolls, BBQ meats, curried vegetables, stir fries, salads... more! Our seats were not the best as we were not part of a pre-booked tour but from what I could see of the show the costumes were amazing and it was fascinating to watch. After dinner, back to the hostel for a few drinks while the boys wait for their midnight bus back to phnom penn.
Next day I decide to catch up on some massive amounts of sleep. Wake up at midday. Go to the markets, buy more Casio watches. Lunch. Nap. Go to the markets and buy a few presents. Back
To the hostel and catch up on my blogs! Next day Bangkok...
