Day Fifty - August 25th, 2013
Mt Isa
With our lovely neighbours, the Frazers gone, we felt quite vulnerable in the campsite as it really doesn't have a very homey feel. We took off early to see what the information centre in town held for us. It was a great building and we settled in to watch a few short movies about the area. We picked up some maps and looked at amazing aboriginal art. We asked the lady behind the counter where we might find a supermarket open on a Sunday. She pointed us in the direction of a Spa, and we set off hoping for the best. It was pricey and not very well varied, so we stocked up in a few basics and came back to the site.
The neighbours in the right of us are a bit strange to say the least, and we didn't feel like hanging around for the day with them so close by. We therefore loaded up the car with some lung and set off for Moondarra Lake, a man made lake in the middle of a dust bowl which supplies the town with water.
We were there by 11 and manage to grab a gazebo. We read and enjoy the shade before a large rowdy group turned up and we felt a little turfed out.
Back at the campground the little girls from next door wouldn't leave us alone, and after the oldest started picking at the pages of Elly's book, I knew it was time to act. We set up camp at the pool for the rest of the day.
A waste of a day - we'll be pleased to get out of Mt Isa tomorrow, we haven't enjoyed our stay too much! Tonight is our last night in Queensland - on to the Northern Territory
