Hello Everyone!
We arrived in Pai on Monday, after a slightly hair-raising trip through the mountainside, which took about 4 hours in total. After walking what seemed like forever in the baking heat, we walked past Baan Tawan Guesthouse, the lady offered us a price which we said was a bit too expensive and managed to get a room for 300 baht a night down from 400, bargain - especially considering how lovely the place is. The Guesthouse is along the River Pai with a big room, a huge balcony and a nice bathroom which made a change from the bathroom we'd just left behind in Chiang Mai!! We spent the rest of the day chilling after some food.
On our first night, we had a little visitor in our bathroom. Sophie opened the door to find a little frog sat on the bathmat, she slowly closed the door and got back into bed saying "Well, I don't think I'll be going to the toilet tonight" - luckily Kie got out of bed and got rid of the frog - phew! We put a glass over the shower plug, which was the only way it could of got in. Finally, no more frog .. until the next evening!!! We named him 'Ninja Frog' because the little b***** was sat next to the unmoved glass, taunting us!! How the hell he made it back into the bathroom with the glass over the plug is a mystery?!
The following day we got a moped and travelled to the Hot Springs, it was beautiful - despite the fact it was like being in a very warm bath and we couldn't stand the heat for too long! We made our way to Pai Canyon and got a good view over Pai and the Second World War Memorial Bridge. We returned to our Guesthouse with a rather under the weather Kie so we just chilled out for the rest of the day.
After a truly horrible night's sleep with Kie being really poorly all night, we decided to get to a doctor. Pai Hospital is a 10 minute (at best) walk from our Guesthouse which, in the heat, just seemed like a terrible journey to have to make. Luckily, once Sophie explained the situation, the Guesthouse offered to take us in their car. After having tests done we gathered, from the broken English, that Kie either had a Viral Infection or Dengue Fever; the latter seeming more correct - which was rather scary! It was good that we had a couple of days to explore before Kie got ill, but it has tarnished our Pai experience somewhat!
Kie is still taking medication and feeling poorly but he is slowly getting better, so we shall see in a couple of days how up to travelling he is before we move on - back to Chiang Mai, then straight onto to Chiang Rai before crossing the border to Laos.
We will be in touch again via the blog when we have more stories to tell you! It may be a few days - perhaps a week but we'll be in touch with the parents daily with updates on young Fewster. Trust Kie to have spent all that money on jabs before we came away to then go and catch the one thing they can't vaccinate against and which doesn't actually have a treatment!!
Well, better get going now folks.
Take care, love you lots Sophie and Kie xx
