Hey Everyone!
Well, we finally managed to make it out of Pai. It was a shame that Kie had become so poorly there, as we had heard so many good things about Pai but we weren't really able to enjoy it to its' full potential. Kie, still not feeling 100%, decided he didn't want to make the journey out of Pai by minibus and opted to hire a moped so he could stop at his own leisure. Sophie, hating mopeds with a passion, opted to continue the journey on the minibus and we later met in Chiang Mai. Kie was so pleased he decided to do the trip by moped and it became one of his highlights of travelling.
After a restless night in Chiang Mai, where our bed was FULL of bed bugs - we woke up early and made a swift exit! So we arrived in Chiang Rai today after a bumpy and frustrating three and a half hour bus ride, at some points the bus lost all momentum going uphill and was literally at a standstill!! Although the journey made us a little queasy, the views were stunning and there were fields and fields of workers harvesting corn. Amongst the stunning views were some really amazing houses which is clearly where the wealthier people live!!
We've been dreaming about good English food for a while now, and to our surprise we stumbled across a little English bar where Kie had bangers and mash and Sophie had a full English breakfast! It was a little on the expensive side but WELL worth it. It has satisfied our cravings for now! We've been for a little walk around but there isn't really much to report apart from a lot of cockroaches and the odd MASSIVE beetle! Yuk! We're staying here for a couple of days before we head off to Laos. Our guesthouse is a little on the basic side but is in the Lonely Planet and has very comfortable beds - phew!
We'll update you when we can.
Take care, lots of love Sophie and Kie xx
