Toronto my friends. Toronto is where its at.
Not sure what that means exactly, but I really liked the biggest city in canada! We all arrived there yesterday afternoon, staying at the Cambridge Suites in te middle of downtown, our room was on the 21st floor and very preeety view wise. We had a nice quick trip to the hotels hot tub, which overlooked the raining city, and then went out to dinner at an amazing italian restaurant called 'terroni's' with some family friends Carm, Denise and her son Elijah. Probs the best gnocchi I have ever had, I am not afraid to make such an epic statement, no siree bob. soooo good, and in such ana amizing building, it was an old jail so on the lower underground floor there are wine cellars in old cells. Very trenday unstairs, with a really nice bar and amazing interior detailing. I was glad I wore my new Montreal dress and those pretty heels I got in Vancouver, this place deserved abit of an effort on my part it was so very cool. After din dins we went for a bit of a driving slash walking tour of the city, saw the downtown streets, the distillery district (kinda like the rocks in sydney) the cn tower which lit up at night which was pretty cool, the maple leaf gardens, and saw lots of cool modern architecture.
Today we went to the ROM, The Royal Ontario Museum, which was absolutely huge and quite expensive but so worth it, as we got to se a lot of cultural exhibits, artefacts, artwork and more from around the world, and most importantly the dead sea scrolls! I have to admit I had absoluetely no clue what the hell these were, despite my years of religious education at high school, but was pleasantly surprised by the interesting display of these ancient scriptures which are pretty much like the oldest texts which have formed the bible, jewish torah and the qu'aran. It was just really cool I cant even explain it. We went shopping along queen street and kensington markets, which was just like mega thrift store overload bonanza. It was insane, yet in the best way possible. I bought some bags and had to restrain myself form buying everything else in every shop. I was pretty proud of my self control actually, I really was. We had jamaican patties for lunchen for 1.25, so delish. This city is perhaps the most multicultural place ever, even if everyone hadnt told me this fact prior to me being there I would have no doubt picked it up for myself. There is just everyone represented there, you can see it just walking down a main street or getting on a streetcar or riding the subway. It's really interesting and wonderful. One funny thing was that Toronto has been on a garbage strike for the past 5 weeks, so there was piles of garbage on many corners, but I was seriously expecting way worse, there was no bad smell or anything, just some noticeable piling ups. Hopefully the strike will end soon, as I hear it is usually an exceptionally clean city.
I feel truely lucky to have been able to see so much of his beautiful country during my stay. I am now in Fergus, which is about 2 hours out of Toronto, just for the night at my Uncle Andy's place before returning to the cottage tomorrow arvo. My eurail pass is on its way as we speak, ordered it last week, and so are the servas host lists, so things are already in motion for my big european adventure. I am very much looking forward to it, althougb I will most certainly miss the seductive beauty of this great big Canadian land which I have become so very fond of.
