Limnos Limnos Limnos! What a wonderful island. After an excited moment of "eeeeek!" upon finally meeting up with Ariane, Liv, Pop and Ariane's friend Stephanie, we headed to Pireaus to catch the ferry to Limnos, which is the island in the north Aegean where Ariane's dad Tom is from. Besides a creepy midget begger who spat and slapped her way through our card game, begging for whatever she could get her filthy little hands on, we got on the ferry unscathed, and thanks to Ariane's laptop with lots of gossip girl, we had a nice overnight ferry ride, arriving in Limnos the following afternoon.
We have been here for a week and have had such fun, feeling so very spoiled with a whole house to ourselves, a stone's throw away from gorgeous beaches and the best yeeros in town and the beautiful portside village of Myrina. We have been relaxing at the beach everyday, lazing about on the deckchairs, drinking a few daquiries with Ariane's cousin Sophie (she's really cool, as the name suggests), swimming in the waveless, so blue ocean, and generally eating our way to heaven with copious amounts of feta, souvlaki, mousaka, yeeros, greek pastries and sweets, thyme honey and yoghurt and fruit…So good.
We splurged on a bus tour the other day, where we went to the prehistoric city of Polyochni which used to do trading with Troy! We also saw he house that Winston Churchill was staying in as a young man during he Gallipoli campaign (we are very close to Turkey here), as well as the old folklore museum and the cemetary commemorating those who lost their lives in World War 1. Another fun day was spent walking up the hill to the old castello/fortress ruins, which were quite epic and looking down mightily on the port and myrina itself. The Greek flag billowing proudly in the wind, the deer quietly frolicking through the rocky green, it was a moment where I had to stop and take it in.
But the best of all was yesterday's boat tour, which was about 6 and a half hours of pure unspoiled fun in the sun, on this really nice boat with about 18 people, we cruised up the west coast of the island stopping at a few places up to the northern tip of Moyrtzouflos, and stopped for a while at this gorgeous unspoiled beach. We squealed with joy as we jumped off the white boat into the clearest of bluey green waters I have ever seen, then sunning ourselves and eating way too much fresh food that was included in the boa tour. Such a good day, and well worth it. We even saw dolphins and flying fish!
I am so happy we have all been able to come here together, it was so spontaneous that liv and pop decided to come and I am just so glad they did, we have had such fun together all 5 of us. And Greece, I am in love with you. I will definitely be back, the yeeros is calling me… xxx
