Oh I really cannot believe I am finally here, it is magical. This is a country I have always heard such wonderful stories about, these pictures painted by Mette and Matilde about their home. I have always wanted to come here, I never imagined I would come here alone, and I do admit I would love to come here again with Mette and Minya, but this is just such a great thing to be able to do, I feel very lucky.
I am staying with Mette's good friend Kirsten, who I met many moons ago in Sydney when I was a wee thing, and her partner Jens and sons Anton, 18 and Emil, 12 and daughter Freja, 4, who I have fallen in love with, even though we dont speak the same language (oh i really wish I spoke danish). It is so lovely staying with them, they live in this really cool kind of community, with about 26 houses and a main dining hall thing where they usually eat all together, all these families and people from all over the place, I think its such a great idea, and there are lovely gardens and playground, a kindy and everything here. It is called Solhojpark, in Farum, which is about half an hour away from Copenhagen, its nice to be so close to it all and still feel like your in this little sanctuary.
Yesterday we had a nice long sunday morning, went to the bakery and I ate copious amounts of delicious pastries, oh my lordy they were amazing. Also living in the community are Pernille and David, also friends of Mette and Matildes who I remember from when I was young, they lived in Sydney for a while too before moving back here. It was so nice to see them, and meet their two gorgeous little girls, Dia and Tilly. Pernille and I went for a little bike ride to the local shops and had a look around the ocal flea market, which was really nice. I have to get used to all this krona, no more euro hwihc is kind of a relief, but i keep getting freaked out when i see "15" above a bottle of orange juice and im like WHAT 15 euro for that?!?!?! and then, i realise. I think the money here is definitely one of the coolest Iv encountered, up there with Australian money.
In the afternoon we went into Copenhagen, walked around Christiania which was very cool. This is like its own little world or community within Copenhagen, with its own rules and laws proctecting it and the many wonderfully designed and some old, houses that are dotted along the water. Really liked this place. Cool street art and interesting looking people, and oh so many bikes, I love it.
Oh, and finally I am reunited with my Remoulade, which noboday will understand the beauty of until they try it. I Don't worry, I will smuggle some bottles out so I can stock up for the year. xoxo
