Sorry for the delay in updates. We have been having too much fun, drinking too much ale and participtaing in too many activities! The internet connections in Cambodia and Laos have also been pants so here we go.
After Vietnam we travelled to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. We knew it would be a harrowing experience but we didnt realise how much. We arrived late in the afternoon and most of the sights etc were closed. The only option we really had was the Killing Fields at Choueng Ek but knowing that a private Japanese Company have owned it since 2005 and they are making a profit out of all this we wasn't too sure!! In the end we decided to go with an Australian couple we met on the way. It was a real upsetting experience. Bones and teeth are still visable in the ground. Thousands of skulls have been dug from the shallow graves. I even found a tooth near one of the mass graves. These were not models or replicas these were real people! Its something we will never forget. The day after we visited Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum where the majority of the people buried in the Killing Fields were held prior to been murdered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuol_Sleng again another experience we will never forget. After Phnom Penh we headed to Siem Reap to visit The Angkor Temples. This was fab. We spent 2 days visiting the temples. The last day we got up at 4.30am to go and witness the sunset and Angkor Wat, we didnt get back until 6pm. I'm a proper temple wizard now Indy will be out of a job. From Siem Reap we flew into Luang Prabang in Laos to save time. It cost us $150 but it was better than a 20 odd hour bus ride! Luang Prabang was ace. We visited most of the temples and Amy befriended a Monk. He wanted us to pay for his education in Chang Mai the cheeky begger! We hired bikes to go and visit the waterfalls. I was overtaken by an elephant, the chain fell off and the peddle come off. I turned around and walked back 3k into town not a happy bunny! From Luang Prabang we headed to Vang Vienge for some tubing action. Basically going down the Nam Song River in a tractor inner tube stopping off at the many bars on route getting blathered! Most of the bars had zip wires etc chucking you in the river. It was ace! We actually made it to the end of the river without geting out and getting in a tuk tuk. We also hired bikes rode into the mountains, vistited caves and swam in a blue lagoon. This time the bike was fine. We arrived in Ventiene today and are spending only 1 night here before getting on a 17 coach to Chang Mai in Thailand reight laugh!
Anyway missing you all. I can honestly say this is the best experience ever. Just wish we had longer!
Love Ian and Amy x
