Hello!
It's 9:42am and I'm stood at the bottom of the Svartisen Glacier! It's freezing, I can hear a waterfall flowing and I'm surrounded by ice and a beautiful lake!
I have just trekked up the path along with the rest of the group in the most surreal surroundings! The rock formations are bright red and what I imagine Mars to be like :) I now need to head back down so I will write the rest of today once it had happened!
This is the life!
Bye x
Hello!
The feeling I have now is the reason I travel! I'm sat back at the bottom of the mountain by the lake. I have just climbed back over from the glacier on the off road track as I have a thing about not going back the same way as I go somewhere as in theory I've been there before! The adrenalin rush of going off track was great and jumping over rocks and going in the general direction was great :) I'm now sat on my own waiting for the group to get back, it seems my more direct route was quicker! I have my feet in an ice cold glacial lake and it's bloody amazing!
Bye for now x
Good evening!
It's 00:31 and I've just got in bed. I have had the best day ever so I'll try to sum up why here!
The Glacier hike this morning was great! I wasn't expecting much having skied the Aiguille du Midi on my ski season but after the hike up the mountain and turning around the corner to see the huge glacier I was blown away! We all walked right up the ice and I even went into the ice itself! I took the compulsory jump photos too before setting off back over the top of the mountain on my own. This was brilliant! Freedom from the group and I managed to beat them all down too! :) Putting my feet in the freezing cold lake was so refreshing after the walk and we all sat there laughing at each other as we tried to brave the cold!
We then set off for the Arctic Circle! I hadn't quite twigged that this trip would take me so far north, which also explains why I don't have the correct clothing with me! I guess I was too focused on school and finishing on a high :)
Anyway... The Arctic Circle! We got off the coach and it was very very cold... We had our photos at the sign and then I checked in on Facebook! I think that's my coolest check in of 2015! I also bought myself a certificate and had the photo taken that's on this blog. Here I lay a stone on top of a pile of stones for my Grandad Dennis, Grandpa Frank and Grandma Pat :) It made me laugh to think how much my Grandma and Grandpa would have hated the cold!!
After the Arctic Circle we set off for our new camp. We are now in Tysfjord and tonight it was my turn to help with the cooking! I expertly chopped carrots, corn on the cob and other veg for this evenings Stir Fry :) After tea I had a really long shower and repacked my bag before heading to the bar in the reception. I heard a guitar playing so I went over to find 2 old Norwegian guys playing and singing, Arne Johnsen and Gisle Haraldsen. I had a fantastic evening with them singing old classics and I even managed to play my 2 standard songs on the guitar, Candy and Hero! Gisle and myself were cracking out some amazing harmonies! Arne even bought me a beer which was great as it's so bloody expensive!
So now myself and Chandan are lying in our room having just celebrated a Swedish girls birthday in the bar with a shot of flaming Sambuka! We are currently reminiscing on the tour so far and should probably go to sleep! It's now 1:05am and it's still light outside, in fact it didn't go dark!
Today has been the best day so far! I'm proud to say I'm the first Hampson to enter the Arctic Circle and look forward to the polar plunge tomorrow!
Goodnight!
