Good evening :)
It's 9:35pm and I'm sat on a wall watching the sun set over Tallinn. My face is glowing, legs aching and the sky is beautiful :)
Yesterday I had a great afternoon to top off a great morning. I continued to explore the city and the view from the top of St Olav's Church was brilliant! The hostel I am staying in is really good and has loads of character. After my day exploring I went to check in and had a shower before meeting back up with some of the group that were still left in Tallinn. We went for a traditional meal an I enjoyed some very expensive, yet interesting and delicious, Bear, Wild Boar and Elk sausages! We then had a few more drinks before I said my final goodbyes and went back to bed. In my dorm there are 3 other guys, 2 Italian and 1 Spanish :)
This morning I woke up early and went to join a day tour I had booked to Laheema National Park. Along with 7 others I explored northern Estonia with our guide and went to a number of places. The first stop was a waterfall which I was able to walk behind, next was a natural spring and then a Manor House before we went for lunch in a family's home over looking the sea. We actually ate our meal in an old Viking boat! :) After this I climbed to the top of an old Soviet Union watch tower! Basically the whole of Estonia is littered with buildings, concrete monstrosities and eyesores showing its hard battle for independence which was only secured as we know it today in 1991!
In the afternoon was visited a huge Soviet Union Submarine Base that is a compete ruin and sits on a beautiful coast line. Apparently it played a vital role in hiding Russian Nuclear Subs during the wars! We then made our way to the heart of the national park and to the Bog! We walked about 3km on a board walk through the bog and a number of wired and wonderful landscapes! We then all fell asleep as we returned to the city!
I have just had a shower and got changed back at the hostel before coming out to climb to this view point. I'm about to go for a meal in the square before going back to my hostel to pack up and maybe have a few beers in the bar.
As I sit here tourists come as go after taking photos and enjoying the view. To my right is about a 50m drop and over the city the lights are glistening and a cruise ship is just docking in the harbour. I can here traditional music being played for a bar down below where I am :)
I have loved my short time in Estonia and totally recommend it to anyone! The old town is great and for a long weekend it's perfect! Tomorrow I get the LUX Express bus at 7am to Riga, Latvia and have the rest of the day to explore.
Anyway, I'm getting hungry now so I'm off. See you soon!
