The adventures of Dani and Dave!
Hello Everybody,
Apologies for the lack of photos. we're having a nightmare with the
internet in India, to the point where we may not be adding any photos
as its taking an eternity to upload even 5 photos.
We are sill having a great time! We went up to Ladakh where we partook
in some white water rafting which was excellent fun tearing down a river
in between the Himalayas, absolutely spectacular scenary! We went to he Ladarhk
festival which was on whilst we were there which was different.. A tibetan
festival with various things including stange religious dances and
varius performances. We really enjoyed chilling in Ladarkh its a fantastic place
especially if you're into you're trekking.. We had a very scary ride down to Manali from Leh
in the back of a Jeep which was probably the scariest 22 hours of my life. We
chose the cheaper sets which were the ones right at the back of the jeep.. Bad idea!
These seats had no padding at all and we were thrown around the back for the duration
and following my insufficient recovery from the Camel safari i was in a touch of pain
by the end. The journey consisted of going up and down mountains for 22 hours with us
passing over the hghest roadway in the world at a staggering 18,000 feet,
a nerve racking experience which was made worse with the way our driver
was taking on these very narrow dirt tracks and the tracks had no barriers from stopping
vehicles tipping over the edge which i thought would happen on 4 or 5
occassions when lorrys and coaches were coming the other way.. Absolute madness!
We saw 2 lorrys on their roofs half way down a mountain so the threat was very apparent.
We reached our goal of Manali where we headed for a lovely chilled place called Vashisht
which had stunning scenary and very nice vibe with hot springs and water falls. We me some other
very friendly backpackers there too. A great vibe to the place. Wish we had stayed a while longer.
We then took a 14 hour coach back down to Delhi to catch a plane to Mumbai which was amazing!
We saw a few sights and made some friends with a few Aussies from Sydney. We met these guys on the
film set for a Bollywood movie where Dani and I got spotted in the street and got asked to play parts
as extras, we obviosly obliged as its the only way you can get onto a set and behind the scenes
is to be spotted and asked to play an extra. We had read in the lonely planet that sometimes
westerners get asked but weren't expecting it. We played fairly large extra roles too. We had to play parts as clubbers in a
Singapore nightclub, quiet uncomfortable dancing to no music as there was a sound glitch!
I then had to open a scene walking in with a girl and acting as if we were togther and then me and a couple of the aussie guys were the main
extras behind a fights scene which all kicked off because of Dani who wa the Sheiks girlfriend and was
getting chatted up by another guy in the club. Was all very Bollywood and loads of overactiun
going on but it was a grea experience. The funny thing is we got asked to be in a couple of TV ads
too but we declined as were had train tickets own to Goa booked.. How funny?? There were loads
of Bollywood wannabes in there too and there barely got a look in and us lot all bowled up in
shorts and flip flops and gopt all the decent extra roles. Needless to say there were a few looks
being thrown our way. We also got paid so all in all it was a fantatsic 3 days in mumbai with some great sights, lovely
foo and night life was fantastic an mae a few friends and became famous... Well I can
dream i guess..
We are now down in the South of Goa staying in a wicked little town. We are staying in nice little beach hut.
We only arrived today but will spend a few days here then head north to the parties.
Hope you are all well and sorry if you don't see any photos but this is India afterall and
we don't really have enough time to sit here trying to upload photos all day on these ridiculously slow machines. So apologies for that!
Dave XX
Hello all!!
Hope everyone is ok and we haven't missed out on any big news! The Steve Irwin death freaked me
a bit - I though Mez was joking when she sent me the text.
Well me and Dave have got around quite a bit as he has already said. Over the past few days we
have travelled from the mountain tops in the very north of India down now to the tropical south
with its beautiful beaches. Am so pleased to announce that we are still alive after the
drive from hell, screeching around cliff bends and driving through some of the highest road passes in
the world. Not being much of a heights person anyway I was petrified the whole way.
After that it was bus and plane to Mumbai - which we liked more than we expected. Were going to
pass through briefly on our way to Goa but ended up staying for 3 days.
The stints in the Bollywood movie were obvious highlights. How random!
Finally caught the overnight train out of Mumbai last night and have found ourselves
a beautiful little hut on Palolem beach. Don't know how long we plan on staying here
but so far we are impressed!! We have exactly 2 weeks left in India which we pretty much plan to spend
on various beaches.
Till our next update - lots of love
Dani
