The GREAT east coast!
Hey everyone...had the most manic few weeks. It literally has been non stop on the move trying to see as much as we can in as little time possible. I dont think we've spent longer than 2 days in the same place and the shadows under our eyes are starting to show.
Our first stop from caines was the atherton table lands where we trecked around some more rainforest and had lunch at a really pretty lake. We then spent the night at mission beach although we didnt actually get to see the beach as there was terrential rain.
The next day we got the ferry to Magnetic Island where we stayed at the most amazing hostel which say litterally on the beach. The weather was absolutely boiling and the view was beautiful. We explored the island for a couple of days and even found a bar that was keeping a 4 metre long crockadile behind the bar that was waiting to be airlifted to sydney zoo (things like this are normal in oz)
From magnetic island we had an 11 hr bus ride down to ailee beach. This is qute a cool town centred around the harbour full of english kids on gap years..heaven (not). We tried avoiding them but they seemed to get everywhere.
Whilst we were at airlee beach we took a sailing trip around the whitsunday islands. The boat we were on had actually won a really important race in sydney 3 times! And they let me have a go at sailing it.
We pulled up at one island where everyone got out and started snorkling. I managed to get up to my ankles..it was all going well until a black and white stripped fish swam right over my feet and that was enough for me...i was out of there!
But sam managed to see loads of really beautiful fish including a mauri ras which is about 1.5 metres long and really fat. Apparently it was really friendly and let you hug it...which actually makes me feel sick but he seemed to love it (each to their own i guess)
We moved on the Kroombit then (further south and quite inland). Here we stayed on a really working cattle station. This actually turned out to be loads of fun. We learnt how to crack a whip, muster up cattle, shoot clay pidgeons, ride the rodeo and brand a goat. I even got to hold a baby goat which i think has been the highlight of my trip so far...it was just the cutest and fluffiest thing ever!! (apart from phoebe)
The next day we went to noosa where we hopped off the bus for 2 days. This is a very posh sea side resort with lots of very fancy holiday homes for rich ozzies. But we found a really nice hostel and a national park where we spotted a koala bear.
Were currently in brisbane which is nice but moving on to byron bay tomorrow (no rest for the wicked!)
Missing everyone loads
Lots of love
Lucy and sam
