A quick update as our plans are not quite going to plan! We are now having to stay a lot longer than planned in Sydney as I have injured my hip. It was about 3 weeks ago and we had just finished a round of crazy golf, or putt putt as the Aussies call it (best not to ask Bob who won!) and then the heavens opened. We legged it towards the nearest dry place, which just happened to be a bar! As we ran I felt a sharp pain in my hip and almost stopped then hobbled on. When we got to the bar I just said to Bob that I'd jarred my hip and it hurt. And from then on it hasn't stopped hurting when I walk, or basically put weight on it. Steps and hills are a killer. I did the usual things but it just didn't respond. We had already extended our stay in Sydney so I suggested I ought to visit the dr. Well, that was on Tuesday and the next day I had an X-ray and Ultrasound but nothing was found so yesterday I had an MRI scan. Basically I have partially torn my gluteus medius tendon where it joins the ileum (ie the tendon at the top of the hip)!! The dr had no experience of this and has referred me to an orthopaedic specialist. Because we are travelling they have 'squeezed' me in next Tuesday which is quite unbelievable really by English standards - from dr to specialist in a week!
We are now way behind on schedule though, but we're not complaining - the sun is shining, blue skies and Sydney is a wonderful city. Life could be a lot worse.
So appreciate your health - you don't realise how much it affects you until something goes wrong!!

Pam Oh dear that is a hippup but hey ho you are getting it seen to and pronto. Can’t believe you have managed to do what you have done with a slightly torn maximum Claudius or whatever it’s called. Yes health and mobility is key to a good life isn’t it and has been Norms mantra since l met him. Wish you luck in getting back to normal, if that’s ever possible Sally now you’ve married Mr Bob!! Much love Pam and Norm xx
Jane Oh no - you poor thing though as you say not a bad place to be holed up! Wish you a speedy recovery.
Joanna Oh goodness Sally you poor thing but sounds as if you’re in good hands. Keep us posted about the results of the specialist. Lots of rest though for the time being I would have thought and definitely no crazy golf !! Xxx
Jane Blimey Sally! That sounds extremely painful. Take care and as always - keep us posted. Get well soon! X
Brenda Take it easy x
Merete Collins Dr Well ? Are you kidding ? I hope nurse Bob is being sympathetic........good luck and let us all know what the specialist has to say........chin up Merete xx
Rosey Oh Sal that is such a pain, literally, Make sure you give it time to heal properly - we want you back on court. Bob will just have to carry you around
Chris That calls for a “buggar” Sally. Can you please tell Fay that the Australian Health system does occasionally do good things for you Nice English visitors. Hope you can get this sorted quickly to allow you to continue to travel and show us Aussies what our country has to offer! Howdy to Bob and tell him to brush up on the Putt Putt techniques
Sal Thank you all so much for your concern. It’s lovely that so many of you care! However I would add that the main intention of the blog was not to elicit sympathy but to provide a true record of our trip so far! I’m taking it easy, honest!!
Grover Vee Ahh yes, the old tear of the gluteus medius...There's an awesome ancient remedy which requires the consumption of a certain elixir while preparing a "bruet" consisting of bark of willow, St John's wort, root of dandelion, spit of frog and more. A good start would be the consumption of the elixir during which thou shalt not exert thyself. Wishing you well....:-)
