Some things we learnt while travelling around New Zealand:
Top 10 Holiday Parks are in all the major tourist destinations around the country and have really good, clean facilities including showers, washing machines and internet. We found them leagues above any other holiday parks we tried and as well as powered and non-powered sites for campervans or tents most have cabins and dorm rooms too.
Iced buns all have grated coconut on top here...
Cake shops rather than bakeries, they have a huge selection of cakes in comparison to what we get in the UK.
The campervan was a great way to get around. We never had to worry about where we would be sleeping and always had all of our stuff with us wherever we went. We had a smallish one but there was plenty of room to sleep and we didn't need anything else when staying at the Top 10 Holiday Parks as they provided the rest.
We were often touched by how nice people are in New Zealand. They are quick to help when you need it and shopkeepers smile and nothing is too much trouble (I know, can you beleive it fellow UKers!)
Now down to the money; for 4 weeks in New Zealand and 2 in Australia we spent:
£2528.97 on Accommodation
£376.26 on Food in NZ, £193.29 on Food in Aus, £569.56 on Food in Total
£505.15 on Fuel
£3114.43 on Travel
£1652.16 on Activities in NZ, £518.30 on Activities in Aus, £2170.45 on Activities in Total
£70.19 on Souveniers in NZ, £142.64 on Souveniers in Aus, £ 212.83 on SOuveniers in Total
£223.38 on Other things
£1800.70 in Cash
GRAND TOTAL £11,125.48
This is all bearing in mind that we stayed with family a few times and so didn't pay for food in those instances. Also, we would have bought more souveniers if we weren't going to be staying on in NZ.
The highlight of our trip was Lake Tekapo in the South Island. It was really the most beautiful area and we couldn't get over the colour of the water. Throughout the country the scenery has been breathtaking, primarily the mountains.
