We landed in Mumbai on Dec 9th at 3:30 ish Mumbai time. It seemed to take for ever to get our bagage and both Rene and I were wondering if it had been lost somewhere. But finally it came out and we headed to the out area. I am thinking that we went through customs when we arrived before getting or lugage but right now I can't remember. It was very early and lack of sleep has my memory mixed up. After getting our stamp in our pass port we headed for another line which was to show the guard that we had actaully just come through customes. And after that on the way out with our bags we had to hand over the peice of paper that was ripped off the form we filled out before we landed. Finally away from the inner part of the airport we could focus on getting to our Hotel.
Per reading in my book on the way out of the airport there is a pre paid taxi stand that you should go to and get your taxi so that you don't get screwed. So we did. Got our slip and then it was trying to figure out where the taxi was that we had to get. Did not take that long to find and the driver took us to The Bentleys Hotel.
At the Bentleys we ended up walking about a block to another hotel that is a part of their hotel and was given a room. First thing in the morning we looked at it and thought, what the heck is this place, but with the last day and a bit we have grown to like our little room at the bottom back of the building.
Part of our electrical went out yesterday so it took a few attempts with talking to different people to get our tv working again. An extention cord was brought in and it was plugged in to another working outlet. Today all our lights are working and the tv is plugged back in to the orig outlet.
I should have brought my book with me so that I could give correct street names and areas.
We went to the port yesterday to the Gate way to India. And walked around the side walks and the stalls that are set up to sell you many good things. Had a bite to eat at Leapolds (sp?) and later that evening we went back for a couple beers. People are everywhere and there are a number of beggers on the street. Most say that they are not wanting money but only some food for their baby or themselves or their family. Which is actaully their way of asking for money. It is hard but you have to learn to egnor them or else it could really affect you.
We have seen some cows on the street, goat by the muslim mosque we visited today and load and load of people. This is the land of people and honking horns. If you don't watch where you are walking you could get run over. Not the same as in Thailand where you are pretty sure that they are going to stop, here you just don't know.
Went on a tour of the city today. Cost Rene and I about $25.00 for the 2 of us to go around the city for 4-6 hours and see some of the sites. We went to 3 different temples today, a beach, the point(by the water)the train station, a park that i think was call Hanging park or something like that, Gandhi's house(which was very interesting) and just seeing the buildings in the city was interesting. Took a black cab that had a/c. If you come here you will see many black taxi's around. They are everywhere. And of course they all hock their horns at other vehicles or people as they drive.
We ate at Mcdonalds today. Had the Chicken Maharaj(or somehing like that) Mac. It was pretty good but it was definately Indian because of the spice that was used on the meat.
Then walked and found this internet so that I could update some of what has been happening since my last blog.
