Hey everybody,
So Aldo arrived in the land of Oz and after saying goodbye to Nick and Leisha, we had a couple of days chilling in Cairns, which to be honest was a bit of a disappointment as there really wasn't anything there, but the weather was good and we got a great hostel which was dead clean and had a pool on the roof so we weren't complaining too much.
We booked all our East Coast trip through Peterpans which included our scuba dive which is why we headed north of Cairns up to Cape Trib(ulation) and Port Douglas, so off we went on our merry little way at 6.30am on Friday 15th Feb!!!
Cape Trib is only about 2 and a half hours north of Cairns so our first stop at about 9am was a crocodile river cruise along the Daintree River. We saw loads of crocs which our guide told us was really lucky as mostly people don't see them at all (which I would be pretty annoyed it if I went on a croc cruise and didnt see any!! hehe) We saw the "papa" of the river...a croc that was 50 years old and didnt have any teeth!! although the guide told us that doesnt make him any less dangerous, he could still kill you just with his jaws!
After our croc encounter it was off the the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree. Which was pretty amazing but unfortunately not much to write about as it was just trees!! Lee lived up to his animal loving ways and licked a green ant!! haha. The aboriginals use them when they are sick because they are packed full of vitamin C and if you lick them they taste of lemons!! Obviously I didnt find out I left it to the boys to like the back end of ants!!
Our hostel (PK's jungle village) was probably the worst of our trip, the boys found a cockroach but wisely didnt tell me until we had left!! We met some great people there though and spent the rest of the day in the pool and bar (obviously!)
The next day it was off to Post Douglas but on the way we stopped off at an ice cream factory that uses no electricity at all...I dunno how they manage that one either!! But it was THE best ice cream we have ever had and probably the weirdest flavours which included coconut (really there aren't enough coconut flavoured ice creams!).
