It was good to catch up with my old friend Nathan last night on Skype. I felt a lot better today - I think my body has been fighting off man flu or 1500km of driving fatigue. Although 1500km wasn't much to cover over an 8 day period. There was a slight panic on Ju's part this morning as we navigated through the streets of Adelaide to get the van back by 10am. It was a lovely to see Eleanor waiting for us when we entered the Apollo campers office. Hugs all round we loaded up her car and set off for the CBD. It was good to see Eleanor. She has obviously settled into her new life quickly. She was excited and full of buzz filling us in on details of her job in A&E.
Rested and ready for our outing we headed to Cleland Wildlife Park and Mt Lofty. Kangaroos, Pelicans, Tasmanian Devils, Dingos, Koalas, Emus and Wallabies, they were all at home today. Dr Ju little seemed to have a knack for connecting with the animals. Eleanor and myself stood by and watched in amusement as we could hear her say, "it's ok". I found the snake enclosure most interesting and chilling. It was good to finally see all these snakes that I had heard so much about... behind glass!. It was reassuring to learn that although poisonous most Southern snakes wouldn't kill you within ten seconds like I had been led to believe. Apparently most victims don't realise they have been bitten, and most snakes in the south 'dry bite' (they don't inject venom). However Eleanor assured us even if we did get bitten it takes a while for the poison to take effect - the key is to get medical treatment as soon as possible. I felt a little safer armed with this knowledge. Unfortunately Eleanor didn't have any information on snakes in the north. Looking at the cages the extremely dangerous labels seemed evenly distributed between the northern and southern snakes... phew!
We had a few hours back at Eleanor's to relax before heading out to grab a bite to eat. Pizza was the food of choice coupled with a few beers. I skipped the desert, chocolate isn't my thing, but an extra beer was. I sipped on my pint as I listened to the girls chat. There's nothing more bewildering at times than listening to women chattering.
