Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Puno we go, with roadworks here and some roadworks there hi ho, hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho. Well it took slightly longer than the estimated 6 hrs to get to Puno. Our journey had taken us through some magnificent countryside. Unfortunately along the way I couldn't help but notice litter everywhere - I guess without a regular collection service what can one do? (burn it all like our neighbours) :-). I was also fascinated that nearly every property or construction isn't finished or if it has been finished it looks like it's about to fall down. I guess that's an immutable law of adobe constructions. Before arriving in Puno we stopped off briefly at Juliaca - a small town which looked more like Mogadishu. I hate to sound like the idiot abroad, but what a @"*t hole.
Puno is slightly better than Lima but not as pretty as Cusco. If it wasn't for the main attraction of lake Titicaca I would find it hard to see a reason to visit this place. The altitude is a lot higher here at 3800 metres. To my surprise Julia is struggling at this height - I am sure after a good nights rest she will be fine in the morning. We managed to book our tour to Uros, the floating islands as well as one of the islands 2 hrs from shore. We also managed to book our bus out to Copacabana in Bolivia on Sunday. I keep telling Ju it's not the Copacabana she is thinking of! One amusing observation is Ju gets transfixed by TV no matter what language it's in - she is intently watching a Spanish cowboy film, why?!. Another early start tomorrow, in bed for 8pm - it's getting earlier and earlier!
