Vicky and Natalie's Adventures
After La Serena we went to another popular each resort called Viña del Mar. It wasn't particularly great but that was partly to do with the huge number of people there. I spent a couple of hours in the truck with one of the drivers trying to help him find a place to park but there just wasn't anywhere... I know those roads like the back of my hand now, argh! I didn't get to see anything else but Nat managed to see the sunset on the beach...wish I hadn't gone in the truck now! We left early the next morning for the Casablanca wine region where we visited a winery called Vertemonte. Wow! The wine was incredibly tasty...I even liked the red wine! Apparently a lot is exported to Europe so look out for it! We then started to look for a place to camp. We went to a park next to a lake but we were told it was closed. We spent quite a while looking for somewhere and then chanced upon a man who told us we could camp on his land next to a big lake! It was a very cool setting and being private land was very secluded. I spent hours down by the lake until it got dark and then returned to the truck where our final dinner together was prepared. I got attacked by mosquitos during the night...nobody else did though, how annoying! Santiago is great. Its incredibly European in architecture and even the people seem very European. We stayed a couple of nights in a posh hotel (Nat and I managed to get a free night there!) and have now moved to a hostal overlooking the main plaza. Its a very cool spot and the hostal is on the 6th floor with a balcony so its great for chilling out in the sun. The hostal is brand new and very clean and the man here makes jewellery...so we've had a few things made up for us! All the locals are very friendly, we get stopped in the street all the time, we even got stopped by a camera crew and asked if we like the summer... we told them 'we're English, of course we like your Chilean summer'! Its so hot here... and it seems to get hotter as the day goes on so that its still in the 30s at 7pm! We leave here for New Zealand tonight. I can't believe 2 months have passed already, its an amazing continent so its really sad to leave but we're both very excited about what New Zealand has in store!
