Vicky and Natalie's Adventures
Ignore the picture...it has nothing to do with where we are!
We spent the last couple of nights in a place called Potosi which is the highest city in the world at 4070m. It was not the nicest of towns but I did find a restaurant where you could have meat fondue! Mmmm! We also took a mine tour where in a silver mine which was pretty horrific. The miners start at the age of 12 and the conditions are terrible. The rock is so hard iot takes between 2 and 3 hours to hammer a hole to put dynamite in before having to fill it back up before having an explosion. We did get to see some silver in the rocks but we had to go down quite deep to where tourists don\'t usually go though. We experienced 2 explosions in the mine and then outside we made our own explosion which vibrated through your whole body. It was a very disconcerting feeling. Nat and I also went to visit some hot springs and swam in a very warm lake! It was awesome...though not as hot as the previous springs we went to, the surroundings made up for it as we were right in the middle of the mountains! We\'ve just arrived in Uyuni where we will be hiring some jeeps tomorrow to take us out to the salt flats. I\'m very excited about this...we got a glimpse of them on the way in and as it was slightly wet the whole sky was reflected on the ground...incredible! We have lots of camping coming up after Uyuni and we\'ve finally settled on a route down to Santiago...we managed to get an observatory into the itinery so I\'m very happy!
