Siemta's USA Adventures
Bonjour! (My French is not getting any better =P)
What a busy day! And before I begin, I have a dodgy internet connection that only lets me upload 2 photos at a time so I am sorry that the photos are so long coming but there will be loads when I get there...
We got up really early by Tara's standards (only 7:30am...) and had a big day planned. We went to the Olympic Stadium from the 1976 summer Olympics (currently hard to believe they could hold a summer Olympics here with this weather!) where we rode a cable car up the worlds tallest inclined tower. From here, we could see all of Montreal for miles and miles.
We then went to Biodome. We saw some wonderfully strange creatures that are native to throughout North America. Some of their wonderful names escape me though... They had four main regions - Tropical Rainforest, Laurentian forest, marine and polar (artic and antarctic) and you wandered through each trying to find all the animals. It was abnormally warm in there so we really enjoyed it =P
We then headed to St Josephs Oratory. It is enormous and perched on a hill so it looks even bigger. It started out as a small chapel (you can still go in to it and it is tiny) as a shrine to St Joseph set up by Brother Andre (door keeper at Notre Dame College across the road). He envisioned something much bigger though and you have to take a look at the photos to even begin to understand how big it is. It is the second largest basilica in the world behind St Peters in the Vatican and the main basilica can hold over 10,000 people standing. It also has a smaller church called the Crypt Church that holds over 1000 people seated and a votive chapel next to that which holds over 3500 votive candles. And they were the only places we were allowed into. It definitely had more levels but the stairs were all blocked.
We then went for a wander through Little Itlay (yep, it was very small...a blink and you'll miss it place) and then to the Latin Quarter where we had Italian for dinner (yep, go figure) and made our way back to the hostel to crash after a very long day.
Off to New York, New York tomorrow, assuming they let us in of course =P
