It appeared that St Lucia had a tiny bit of rain overnight as the deck outside was a bit wet. They certainly need a lot of rain. Someone told us that many of the wild animals are dying. Jean was upset because someone was smoking right outside our room when we woke up. They don't seem to mind smoking here but it was really only the Europeans we saw smoking. Early in the morning, We were a bit shocked when suddenly we heard a key on our door and someone coming inside. We later found out the manager had told the staff we had left (or so they say). When we checked out, we had to wait to get a damage deposit they had charged at the beginning as they were busy checking our room for damage. We were not impressed at all with this B&B. The trip to Durban (about 250km) was relatively uneventful. South African highways have wide shoulders and the convention is that you pull over to let someone by if they are going faster than you. After they have passed, they usually blink their tail lights twice to thank you and you flash your headlights to acknowledge it. What frequently happens though is that you have people passing on both sides so there are 4 abreast on the highway. South Africans also use turning lanes as passing lanes so you have to be on your toes all the time. We got to Durban about 11:30am, much too early to go to our B&B, so we went to the Durban Aquarium and Seaworld. They built the aquarium in the hull of a very large boat. It was very well designed. They also had a dolphin show and a feeding the shark show. I have a strong dislike for keeping Dolphins in captivity. We went to the show anyway. At 3:30pm, we decided to find our B&B. It was a bit nerve racking as the driver for a bus from the university decided he was not going to let me into his lane and practically ran me down. Fortunately Jean was watching because there was going to be a collision! Our B&B is called Essenwood House and is a big beautiful old home in the older part of town. Jean was quite impressed that it even has a bidet! We were told to watch out for the monkeys. It is raining quite hard right now. Our hostess remarked that the rain is much needed. Tonight is our second to last night in South Africa. Tomorrow we fly from Durban to Jo'berg and then the next day we fly to Hong Kong.
