Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand with approximately around 640 different activities you can get up to. We did none of these and we are not really sure how that happened. In fact our 4 days we spent in Queenstown seemed to be spent either eating, drinking or getting over drinking which included more eating. It all started well when it was announced as we got into Queenstown that we would all be meeting at the hostel bar that night to head out. We seeing as everyone was going we we felt we could not be rude and stay in so we headed down. After a few hours we headed to the infamous World Bar that serves cocktails in teapots ( we had money off these so obviously could drink nothing else). Instead of using the shot glasses provided we took to pouring the cocktails straight into our mouths, or each others mouths, whichever we preferred. After a few hours of dancing like maniacs and teapot drinking we headed to our rooms to pass out ( not before finding Gee adorably cuddles up fast asleep in the reception). We had actually lucked out with our room here. As we were last off our bus ( we always seemed to manage this) and therefore the last to check in the hostel had run out of dorm accommodation. As the Kiwi Experience guarantee us accommodation they had to find us a room and we were therefore put into a triple room with en-suite its own tv and even a fridge. Luxury. I partly blame the room for why we didn't seem to do much in Queenstown although Joel did do a bungy jump which we all went to watch and this definitely felt like a group achievement. Other than that it was really lovely to have a base for a few days mill about the town and get settled. Queenstown itself is a lot smaller than we imagined but absolutely gorgeous in fact Jenkins has decided she most wants to live here more than anywhere else in NZ and I cant say I would exactly put up a fight to joining her.
Also of mention in Queenstown has to be the famous Fergburgers. We had heard so much about them that we were concerned it was all going to be hype but we couldn't have been more wrong. They were so so good! I couldn't possibly just eat there once in fact the second time was at around 2 in the morning when me and Emily worriedly hammered on the door (unaware of the hatch that they had open to serve food) in a panic that they might have been closed! Thankfully they weren't which meant we got to enjoy one all over again. I would go back to Queenstown for a Fergburger alone. While this was all occurring Sian was actually in the local kebab shop making best friends with the Turkish owner and telling him all about having lived in Turkey while demanding more cheese, then melted cheese, then garlic mayo whist the takeaway man amazingly simply obliged.
When we eventually left Queenstown we were genuinely devastated to be leaving. However it was probably a good thing as we were both shattered and ill and definitely needed a few days away from the alcohol.
