Had a nice lie in today, aaahhhh, was so nice! Obviously really needed some proper rest and to not have to get up at sparrows first cough to get somewhere! As much as I look forward to day trips and so on, it is nice just to wake up when you want to rather than when you have to!
Got a lift into the town centre today, and spent a long while in the Visitor Centre with a vaguely helpful lady, trying to book some tours for the next three days. She seemed very nice, but just not particularly helpful with me whilst I was trying to make a decision. She kept saying that everything was really nice....not that useful when I'm trying to narrow down the places to go!
I also found out that the Devil Conservation park wasn't very easy to get to, and there wasn't any separate transport that could take me there. Oh. Not particularly useful then, so that was one option gone. However, I booked an afternoon tour for Wednesday to go to Bonorong wildlife park where you could see Tasmanian Devils, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and even echidnea's! You also get to go to Richmond which is apparently a very nice little town to have a stroll through.
Booked a day tour tomorrow that has a 3 hour cruise to and around Tasman Island, and you're meant to see lots of wildlife around there - seals, whales, dolphins, and birds so I'm hoping to spot some dolphins. Knowing my luck, they will clear off that day and I'll miss yet another chance!! Also go to Port Arthur in the afternoon, and get around 2 and a half hours there to have a bit of lunch and a look around. I'm not sure I'm that interested in a former prison, but it might be quite interesting in any case.
Then Tuesday I'm off to Huon Valley which is where the 'air' walk is. It's a high platform amongst trees in a forest and you can get great views from up there. A nice walk in the forest sounds ideal, and it only takes about an hour and a half to get there, so that helped me decide. The woman at the desk brought out a few more brochures and I was debating on whether to go to the East Coast beaches on a day tour as they're meant to be really lovely, but when I heard it took 3 hours to get there, it really put me off. I don't want to spend 6 hours on a coach on one of my last days in Tassie after all!
So, tomorrow is Tasman Island, Tuesday is Huon Valley, and Wednesday I get a lie in in the morning (gotta pack me suitcase again as well) and then off to see Tasmanian Devils!!
Got to see a couple of boing-boings in the backyard at Nancy and Lyell's house which was cool. Quite dark, but you could make them out at the back of the garden - a mum and her joey are out there at the moment!
Got to get up very early tomorrow to get the 6:30am bus into town. I thought I'd get up for that one as it gets in at 7am and I'm meant to be at the Visitor Centre at 7:35am or so as the bus leaves at 7:45am. Also, if I miss the 6:30am bus, then the next one is at 7:05am which is meant to get in around 7:30am or so. So at least I've got a back-up bus if I miss the first one.
