Shona's World(ish) Tour
Well, since my last entry I've started on the Intrepid Basix Tour. Being with a group has been strange even after only 4 days of being by myself. It's quite amusing that a bunch of intelligent, confident individuals turn into jelly brains if asked to make a decision as a team!! We've worked on that though and seem to be coming out of the haze...
I've been from Hanoi to Halong Bay (a world heritage site) which is a stunning group of limestone islands. After taking a boat around the islands, visiting some beautiful caves and swimming in the bath-temperature water (the tomato festival goggles came in handy again here!) I was pretty much in holiday mode. We stayed on Cat Ba Island and walked through the National park. Nice to get a bit of exercise but the sun/heat is difficult for my poor little white body to cope with. I highly recommend the Soltan whole day suncream though - it's the first time ever I've been out in the sun all day without turning a beautiful crimson colour!!
After that I returned to Hanoi to catch the overnight train to Sapa. This is a hill village in North-west Vietnam which is in amazing countryside. We did a short hill walk to a local village yesterday and came into contact with lots of wildlife. Sharing a narrow path with some white water buffalo was a fragrant experience! From here we'll be trekking to a Hmong village tomorrow where we'll stay with local tribe people. Looking forward to it! Will let you know how enriched I am in my next entry.
Hope you're enjoying reading. Don't forget to email me too! I promise you a personal response.
Catch you on the flip side!
