Shona's World(ish) Tour
Finally reached the end of my Vietnamese adventure... Since my last entry I've dodged a typhoon (in a single bound!), eaten enough bacteria to give me food poisoning and wrestled with a shark. Ok one of those isn’t true but you can use your imagination to work out which one is the lie. It’s just like a game of I have never….From the amazing old town of Hoi An I took a mammoth train journey to Nha Trang. Comedy journey consisting of lots of eating (I resisted the embryo chicks and the strange meat concoctions served up luke warm from an open trolley though), reading, learning Spanish from my ipod and watching the Vietnamese equivalent of Pop Idol played through the TV/loudspeaker system at 50000 decibels. That all took the first half an hour so settled down to some sleep for the other 11 hours! In Nha Trang we managed a bit of sunbaking (the Ozzie word seems so much more appropriate) and visited the only hot springs in the country. Felt great to wallow about in really stinky mineral mud. Sure it made me even more radiant……Moved on to Ho Chi Minh City where I’ve done a bit of culture and a lot of shopping. It’s amazing how many bags a girl who’s traveling for a year needs! The important skill of bartering has been tested to its limits though. Fun to begin with but a little waring by the end of a 3 hour negotiation for one chopstick! Thanks for all the messages – keep them coming! No hope of photos from me at the moment as the connections are either too slow or the computers are too old to have USB ports. Will try again in Laos…?!
