Just had to squeeze in a quick entry about being here.... We flew up from Buenos Aires on Monday and were delighted when we arrived at the swanky Hostel-Inn. Good pool and even better cocktails!
Went to the Argentinian side of the falls first: we started by going through the rainforest in a 4WD truck (Anna and I saw a monkey jump across the trees in front of us, although no-one believes us...) then arrived at the river; the boat was quite full but we all managed to get a side seat, phew!; first views of garganta del diablo (Devils throat) from the boat were awe-inspiring - I can't even begin to explain the feeling; we were then taken under the edge of Salto San Martin and the Tres Mosquerteros - in a tourists love to get wet way (and to be fair most did!); we then spent a while drying off on the island of San Martin followed by walks along the inferior and superior circuits. The whole place was filled with hundreds of butterflies which added to the fairy-like quality of the place - don't let me put you off boys, you'd love it too! We took the train then the walkway out to the "mouth" of the Devils throat. Amazing! Saw an alligator basking on a rock but still no snakes....
The following day saw us on other transfer bus going across the border to Brasil (Kellie couldn't go because they wisely keep the Aussies out - well, ok, she needed a visa!). Luckily the bus driver was an 80's European music fan and the journey saw us doing the Steps "Tragedy" routine along with other classic greats from Roxette and Phil Collins. We beat the crowds to the panoramic viewpoint looking over the entire falls. The most breath-taking, overwhelming, dramatic, spectacular view I've ever seen. Wow.
If you haven't been here, plan it now. Seriously. Even if it takes the rest of your life to save up. Do it! You'll thank me.....
