Well, it took over 25 hours of solid travelling but I finally arrived in the last continent of the big adventure...
Hola de Sud America! As that's about all I can say at the moment (ok I can translate most menus but ask me a question and I'm a jelly-like mess) so don't worry about me going off into Castellano.
The journey in from Buenos Aires airport was another transport treat. Pilson and I had managed to draw breath long enough to get in a remis which then whisked us through the streets to our hostel... who cares if those little line things signify lanes? Clearly not our taxi driver. Red lights? Pah! Unfortunately the room we'd booked was "unavailable" so we were shunted off to another hostel down the street - oh, the joys of carrying the beast again. All was fine until we were awoken by the sound of gunshots - no, don't worry Pilson it was only a car backfiring! Spent the first morning in the way of the locals i.e. eating pastries and drinking coffee. Yum! Then went a bit spontaneous and bought a ticket for the Football (Boca Juniors vs. Nueva Chicago). Another first for me.... First live football game ever. Can't say it was the most thrilling experience so far but the stadium really does shake when the fans all jump up and down whilst singing. None of your namby-pamby Millwall chants either. They have a full band and a selection of songs. Oooh, the passion.
Once the rest of the gang had arrived (Fiona, Kellie and Glendora) we started the tourist trail. We spent a couple of days in the Parana Delta. Pilson made my day by managing to turn over her canoe.....with Walter our guide in it. Disaster! Hee hee. Took a little day trip over to Colonia in Uruguay, as you do, which is a lovely old town with nice beaches. Kellie started to feel ill on the ferry home. First bout of food poisoning....?
Managed a few days out in the big smoke too. We visited the famous mausoleum of Eva Peron, wandered around the microcenter, haggled at the market in Recoleta. Anna and Glendora fell ill..... Obviously my hardened, meat eating, travellers stomach is resistant to the bugs. Hurrah!
Must go practice my moves for tango later... Happy Easter to one and all! Hope you've had a lovely 2 weeks (if you're a teacher) and few extra days off (if you're a normal human being!). Much Love S xx
