Shona & Nikki's big trip!
Finaly in Miami - yay!
Have just spent a lovely 2 days relaxing on the white sands of South Beach, swimming in the clear, warm sea and wondering the streets of Miami Beach. Was well needed after the stress of Sunday - having to move out of my room, pack my enormous rucksack and sell my car all with THE hangover from hell (from the leaving party), and after almost not even making it here at all (bit of a dilema with visa's at the airport) but eventualy we had a great flight - had our own TV's and everything! Kept us occupied for the 8hr flight with loads of films and games as couldnt sleep with all the exitement!
We've been a bit jet-lagged and confused ever since - waking up all lively in the morning only to be surprised thats its pitch black and 5am! But its cool 'cos it means we get to the beach early enough to catch the morning's entertainment - our new friend, the local nutcase, who dresses in a batman mask and cape and a little mini skirt (and NOTHING else!), he thinks he's a cheerleader for the Dolphins and does a very loud and crazy song and dance routine for everyone (I will get some pic's - v.funny!). Actually there seems to be alot of crazy and strange people here, but they seem mostly fun and harmless, going round kissing flowers and stuff, infact I got an origami rose made from a palm tree leaf from some random weird guy today, sweet. But as you'd expect there are also loads of beautiful tanned people too, lots of fitness freaks jogging or skating down Ocean Drive but its not as superficial as everyone makes out.
Its strange 'cos it all looks very American but has a very Latin-American feel. Absolutely everyone speaks Spanish (and seem to think I'm Latino), most signs are in both laguages, and Latino music is played everywhere. Hopefully we'll pick up a bit of Spanish before heading to Central America.
Anyway, we've spent the last 2 nights in a nice but basic hotel in Miami Beach but tommorrow we move to a dorm room in a hostel in the Art-Deco district, 2 mins from South Beach! Not too sure how I'm going to carry my rucksack down there in this heat (constantly 82f + and very humid), think I'm definitely going to have to get rid of some of my clothes - maybe I should donate a mini skirt to our batman friend!
PS - much more Miami photo's to come - only just figured it all out!
