We stayed in Bangkok for a few nights before heading off to Krabi to do the Thai islands. In Bangkok we met up with Linda and Steve again to have a catch up then we went for some drinks and food from some food stalls near their apartment. The next day we went with Sam and Vicky to some big shopping centers and me and Vicky finally got to watch sex and the city which was great while the lads watched the hulk. In the cinemas in Thailand you have to stand up and sing the national anthem before the start of every film and watch a short video about the king!
We left Bangkok after 3 days and decided it would be a lot easier to get a flight down to Krabi and it was quite cheap. When we got to Krabi town it was like a ghost town so we ended up just having dinner thee then getting the next boat to Koh PhiPhi. I think we should of stayed in krabi a bit longer than an hour though as iv now read about a few amazing beaches around that area that we missed but never mind!
We arrived in Koh PhiPhi after a horrendous boat journey to rain and funnily enough left in rain too! Koh Phi Phi is where the film the beach was filmed with Leonardo Di caprio. We stayed in the main part in a resort called Chukit resort which was not the best but it's very expensive on this island now since the Tsunami and you don't get much for your money unfortunately! Apparently their trying to get rid of backpackers to get the 5*customers in to bring money back to the island however it was full of backpackers so I don't think that ideas working really!
We spent 3 nights on Koh Phi Phi were we all prayed for sun but the rain from the Philippines was there to stay for a week so we didn't get to do much while we were there which was a shame as the beaches looked lovely. We did spend a lot of time in cafes and got a massage. We also met up with Sam and Vicky's friends Casey and Natalie so we all went out a few of the nights and watched some Thai boxing matches! On the last morning it stopped raining so we decided to quickly hire out a boat so that we could see the other island Koh Phi Phi Leh which is where the beach was actually filmed. We ended up getting a small long boat for the four of us. We went to an amazing lagoon first where the water was amazing really clear with lots of tropical fish then we got dropped off at a cave where the boat driver told us we had to swim to then climb through to get to the beach, as the water was too rough for his boat around the main entrance. This looked easy enough until we actually got close to the cave entrance. We were all knackered after battling with the waves then as we got close the waves were really bad and there were lots of rocks you couldn't see! The lads finally got in the cave but me and Vicky were just getting knocked into the rocks! We finally made it onto the cave and through it but we all had cuts and bruises. I was cut to shreds all over my feet and hands but luckily they weren't too bad and we soon forgot about them when we walked through and got to "the beach". The beach was packed full of tourists who were on bigger boats that could get to the bay in the rough sea. It spoilt it a bit s it was so busy and also I thought the beach was totally enclosed like a lagoon but it's not, there is a really big opening that even pretty big boats can get through! The actual beach itself was lovely and really clear but we only stayed about twenty minutes as we knew we had to try and get back to the boat! We managed to get back without any more injuries and we did some snorkelling around the boat. Our boatman through some bread into the water and so many tropical fish came while we were snorkelling we were all surrounded by them and it was amazing! We then went to monkey bay which is a beach full of cheeky monkeys! They were great taking coke bottles of tourists and downing them! We managed to feed them some fruit that another boat had given to their passengers to give to the monkeys. They were really gentle and just took the food out of your hand without snatching it but some monkeys were snarling at some tourists they mustn't have liked! We got back to the main island and had some dinner before getting on much bigger boat to Phuket when it started raining AGAIN!
We arrived in Phuket town about 2 hours later were the weather was still a little grim! We decided to get a taxi to Karon beach which is a bit quieter than most of the beaches. The beach here was nice but a shame about the rubbish which was scattered around. We stayed in Karon guesthouse which again was basic and full of ants in the room which really annoys me! We were able to use the pool at the golden sands hotel which was only down the road so the next day we went a got a few hours in before the rain started again! We met up with Maxine and her boyfriend the next evening and 8 of us went out to a place called Patong which is basically like Blackpool on speed! It's full of go-go bars and stalls selling all the latest knockoff goods! We had a really funny night though going to some of the go-go bars and all having a go on the poles! Oh and having a late night snack in Mcdonalds!
We decided not to stay too long in Phuket as the weather was still unsettled so we decide to get a bus and a boat over to Koh Samui on the east coast of southern Thailand. We got the bus which was ok and then a boat from Phuket to Koh Samui which took most of the day. We decided to stay in the beach area of Hat Lamai which isn't far from the busy resort of Hat Chaweng. We found a resort called Mira Mare which has beach bungalows at a reasonable price although our bungalow was very basic (cold shower only!) and smelled! It was right on the beach though so we didn't mind so much as the beach was lovely! The first night we decided to have a romantic meal as there was a restaurant right on the beach just a few feet from the sea! All the restaurants and bars on the beach light lanterns which float up into the sky and eventually burn away and there were fireworks most nights! The meal was really nice I had barracuda and Ady had shark which was really tasty! That was until the waitress came over to see if we wanted a dessert, I leant over to get the menu and my whole chair toppled over with me in it! I jumped up really quickly and tried to get most of the sand off me while all the waitresses came over and were apologizing, even though it was my fault! I was really embarrassed as the restaurant was full too!
We spent a few days trying to top up the tan and hired out a jeep for the day so we could see the rest of the island with Sam and Vicky. Our first stop was the famous grandmother and grandfather rocks which are a popular attraction due to their suggestive formations! We then went to a waterfall which was quite big but once you have been to the one in Luang Prabang Laos it's hard to find one that compares! For lunch we visited the sleepy fishing village of Hat Bo Phut which was really picturesque. We then went to see the most popular resort Hat chaweng were we stayed at the beach for a while but we thought our beach was nicer so we went back to ours for a few hours! We decided to go back to the fishing village for some tea and to watch the sunset. The next night we all went out for tea and then we went to a small night market. The lads got a bit bored with me and Vicky looking at bracelets etc so they said they would find a bar to have drink in, needless to say half an hour later we finally found them both playing connect four in a go-go bar! The girls in the bar didn't look impressed when we turned up! We stayed in Koh Samui for four nights before getting the boat to Koh Tao. It was a bit of a pain getting to Koh Tao in the end! First our boat was delayed for 2 hours! Then we were on a boat for 2 hours to Koh Phangan. We were then told we would have to get off that boat and change to a different boat! This is a pain when you have to wait for your backpack to be thrown off the boat then haul it onto a different boat. We then had an hour and a half boat ride to Koh Tao.
