Just writing this, it's hard to picture that although I might be on a computer in a Youth Hostel in Rome, 5 hours ago I was sitting under the Leaning Tower of Pisa, in one of the most amazing courtyards around.
The rain did nothing to appeal to the walled up City of Pisa, although I was amazed that the concept of a fortified town still existed. It was really interesting. MJ guided us towards the tower and loe behold we became lost.
It really was not that amusing, but eventually seeing the White Limestone of the Tower in the distance, it seemed to beckon us...'Come see me'. Thus we went. And indeed, it was awe-inspiring.
The thoughts at that moment was more, oh my god. I can't believe I'm actually here. You see pictures of places on the internet, documentaries and in teaching, but when you are actually there, in the Piazza of the Tower, you take it in, and it's like...wow I'm actually doing this.
The funny thing is...the tower seemingly got straighter the further up it went. I'm sure thats something mainly to do with perception, but it was rather fascinating. Pisa seemingly had only that as its claim to fame. Yes there was the University and a huge river running through the town...but surely after a while, boredom hits you.
Take it in comparison to London. There are amazing sites...but living there you get tired of seeing the same things everyday.
Oh well
Vatican and Colisseum tomorrow.
It's going to be great.
