Hi!
We've been so busy the last few weeks we hav'nt had chance to update the blog so let us fill you in on what we've been upto!
After lazing about in Surfer's paradise we caught another overnight bus up to Hervey bay for our camping trip to Fraser island. Can't say we were that enthusiastic about going after hearing we had to use a shovel to dig the loo! Anyway after getting into our half german/ half english group we set off to the supermarket, yes all 11 of us, to get supplies for the weekend. Tip- Don't take everyone the supermarket when planning a camping trip, it was a nightmare! Food and drink sorted we packed up our 4x4 van the next day and set off to Fraser island! It turned into one of the best weekends we've had! Even when the van got stuck in the sand and we had to push it in the blazing sun we were still laughing, mostly down to our new german friends who were hilarious and kept cracking us up with their funny comments. Fraser island is stunning, the lakes are all freshwater so you feel clean when you've been swimming in them, just as well really as we did'nt have a shower for 3 days and our feet were black from walking around with no flip flops on! The sea is really choppy and full of sharks so you are advised not to go in it, not that Felix and Stephan listened and decided to use mother nature as a shower/ sink/ toilet even washing the dishes in it! We set up our own little tents and cooked tea for 11 on camping stoves. Next day we packed up our van and did it all over again, this time getting stuck in the sand for longer so we spent most of the day in the back of the van, pushing the van or standing on the side of the road something they don't tell you when they give you the briefing before packing you off! All in all though we had a fab time , even using the shovel for the loo did'nt phase us by day 3 and met some funny new friends along the way.
No time to stop, got on another overnight bus night we got back into Hervey bay (after having a shower first of course, yuk we stunk!) and off to Airlie beach/ Whitsundays.
Decided to go on 2 night boat trip around the Whitsundays on a boat called Freight train or Fright train as Amy kept calling it, ha ha! Boat was quite small and had 18 people altogether on it so it could be a bit cramped at times but was'nt too bad. We must have had a good captain as none of us felt sick even once, his downfall was that he woke us every morning at 6 with very loud music, can't say we were very impressed!!! Whitsunday's is again another stunning place, sunbathed, attempted snorkeling again and just ate and lazed about really so a very stressful time was had by all, ha ha. The final night we watched the most beautiful sunset with chillout music playing in the background on the boat. We felt a little sad and reminised about our travels so it was quite fitting that we saw it near the end of our trip.
Off the boat and onto another overnight bus, told you we had'nt stopped! We are now in Cairns the final leg of Australia. Had our Christmas night out on Saturday, Australia is a bit behind with music but we still had a good night. Yesterday we took a boat trip to Fitzroy island to see the great barrier reef for some more snokelling/ swimming/ sunbathing/ lazing around, We know its a hard life! Not long left now though, flying to Tokyo tommorow for the final stop on our travels. Can't believe we are home on Saturday to the cold and wet, we don't know were the time has gone!
Will do our final blog from Tokyo to update you on the last few days!
