As we said in our last very short lazy blog, We are in Australia and loving it, thats why we are only just updating this again!
We started in Sydney and can you believe it, it was freezing! Even had to buy cardies one day because we were soooo cold! Had a look around the city and tried in vain to find really cheap shops, we are so used to spending very little in Asia we had forgotton how much things really cost! Went down to Sydney harbour and the opera house. Then upto the bridge and the rocks, an old historic part of Sydney.
After a few days we moved to Bondi beach, just outside of the city. We thought it would be a bit more blackpooly turns out its actually really nice and peacful, more like cornwall. In our wisdom thinking we had the whole travelling/sleeping thing sussed we did'nt book beds and just thought we'd roll up on a saturday night. MISTAKE...we had to roam round like headless backpack carrying chicken's looking for somewhere to sleep. Eventually we got the last beds in Bondi, we ended in a double bed with a mattress on the floor in the lads room of a hostel! Turned into the best room we had slept in yet, beds were well worn in and cosy, even the boy's behaved and did'nt snore, although rain did come through the window and soak Emma and Sarah mid-sleep! We had crazy John, the manager, who had done a few too many drugs in his time and completly forgot that you'd asked him to get you something 10 minutes before. He was a laugh though. We also had graffti adorning the walls which you will see on the pics. Lads in the room were hilarious and woke us up one night with some funny drunken stories and jokes! The infamous saturday night in Bondi we met up with Becci who is Amy and Emma's friend from home and also used to work in Kendals, she is living in Bondi at the moment. She showed us round all the best spots and even found us an R&B club which is rare in Australia, even better we got in for free and got a bottle of champagne for nothing. You can imagine how drunk we were! We did however live to see another day!
Onto Byron bay. 13 HOUR BUS JOURNEY! In all fairness though it did go quite quick as we got the overnight one. Arrived to find what we now know are called 'schoolies' everywhere, great! Apparently it is the end of exams so they all come away for the summer, they are funny to watch though getting drunk and hanging round the streets because they are'nt quite old enough to get in anywhere! Even we felt old though! The beach was very peaceful though at Byron bay and the town is small and qaint with a few hippies telling everyone how much they love the world, mum, trees etc. We had a night out last night but the schoolies (that were old enough to drink) got a bit too much for us and we went home with pizza to our beds, ha ha, we are showing our age now!
Today we have moved to surfer's paradise, half an hour up the road yet an hour behind in time, how weird! Been for pizza by the slice and ice cream, heaven! Its like a roasting pot here, so off to the beach tomorrow to cook and turn golden brown!
Speak to you all soon, only 3 weeks left now, gutted!
