Swaziland to Ithala Game Reserve, KZN, SA
So, en route to Kloof to catch up with my friend Elise & family we decided to see if Ithala Game Reserve could accommodate us. Of special significance is the fact that in September 1979 (R whilst working for the SA Wildlife Society) had the privilege of coming up here at the time of proclamation & was part of the initial planning. We got a booking so off we went.
Of course we had to collect our gecko then it was about 2 hours to the border through small villages, smart schools sponsored by various countries like Japan & Taiwan, and general African scrub. The last 60km or so were through vast sugarcane fields where the roads were fantastic. Of note was the number of dead cows on the roadside & then the number of smashed vehicles alongside. A cow & no vehicle meant a truck had hit it, a cow & vehicle was self explanatory.
