Hello from Cambodia!?
Sorry we haven't updated for a while but internet connection here is slow and we can't find anywhere to upload our photos!? We arrived in Cambodia 25th April via the bus from hell.? We left Bangkok 8am via bus to the Cambodian border, Poipet, journey took 5 hours and was fine infact quite pleasant, the hell started there, we crossed the border fine but then somehow ended up on a mini van with 20 other people crammed in, we were literally sitting on each other.?
we then proceeded to be driven down the worst dirt track ever known to man with huge pot holes for the next 7 hours!? as we were going along i prayed for a few things:
1. we don;t break down 2. we get there safely 3. the storm we could see brewing would not hit us. and 4. we wouldn't need the loo!?
we did get a flat tyre and we did go into the storm which made the dirt track into a reddy muddy mess!? we arrived in siem reap at 9.30 that night and had left our room in bangkok at 6.30am with only breakfast inside us the whole way!? thank fully we had booked accomodation ahead and we stayed in a lovely guesthouse called rosy's in siem reap.? We stayed in the deluxe room the first night ($15 - 7.50 quid)?
anyway we ended up staying in siem reap for 4 nights until 29th and really loved it there.? the highlight of the stay was of course Angkor Wat which we got up at 4.30am to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat.? The place was amazing, spent the next 7 hours walking around all the various temples in angkor, with sweat dripping of us as its 45 degrees here!? whilst walking round angkor wat we?were lucky enough to witness a?buddist ceremony and as we werestanding by the family the buddahs blessed us with holy water too.?
the nice thing about cambodia is the khmer people they are so sweet and serene.? they try to barter with you saying something is?$3 and you say no only $1 and they just smile and say ok!? no arguing like?bangkok!?
they work in us dollars and their own currency the riel here which can?get a bit confusing as you will pay for something in dollors and get a mixture?of both currencies back!?
we visited many temples that day as well as Angkor Wat, we wont bore you with all the history suurounding them all but afraid you will have to look at the many photos we took as got a bit snap happy with them all, its hard to believe the scale of them and realise how along ago they were built etc.? The other temples were Angkor Thom, Bayon, Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper, Thommamon, Chau Say Tevoda, Ta Keo, and Ta Prohm.
Promise to upload the photos as soon as can find somewhere with the connection to do so!
