We left Siem Reap 29th April for Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh and checked into the top banana guesthouse for 2.50 quid a night! bargain!? the room was good too!?
wer decided to stay 2 nights here as there isn't much to see except the killing fileds from the Genocidal Regime of the Khmer Rouge and S21 - The Toul Sleang Genocide?Museum.? We visted both sites yesterday (30th April)? and to say we were depressed by the end of it was an understatement.?
At the killing fields we seen the mass graves that have been excavated and our guide told us in great deal what had happened here, basically if he thought you posed a threat as in you had a profession etc he killed you and your whole family, but would torture you first and interogate you in s21.? many of the mass graves have not been excavated and when the mekong river swells and bursts its banks more bodies and skulls are unearthed.? we did take photos of the fields and inthe museum but they arn't reayy for pleasant viewing.? Our guide said Pol Pot (regime leader) killed more people than hitler, what is more astonishing is that is was only in 1974 - 1979 that it all happened.? As you walk around the killing fields you stumble across clothing still stuck in the earth and a tooth here and there.? Our guide advised his family were very lucky as his father was a farmer so they did not kill him.?
anyway we are?now in Sihanoukville the beach resort (yipee!) we were having withdrawal symptoms from the beach!? we arrived here safely this moring and have a lovely bungalow not far from the beach for 3 pound a night! not bad hey?? it seems really nice here so going to stay 7 nights, will update more when we have done something and hopefully upload some photos too!
Anyway thanks to everyone for your messages! congratulations to Sheena and Eddie on the birth of their little bundle - send phots asap please!?
love shell and simon xxxx
