Yesterday was very busy. We went on a gourmet food tour from 10 in the morning until the afternoon. It was cool. We got kind of a mini tour of part of the city and we got to go to a market, a secret garden, a coffee shop and a fancy restaurant.
The tour was pretty interesting, I learned about some of Peru's history. We drove around in a van with a group of 10 including the driver and the tour guide. As we drove the tour guide pointed out places and explained the history behind them. We also went for a walk and checked out some gardens and other interesting areas. I learnt that Lima is the second largest city built on a dessert and that all the green grass, flowers, trees and everything all have to be watered very often because they'll die very quickly, they won't thrive on their own at all. We were also told that it never rains in Peru, but he was wrong becuase this morning when we woke up it was raining a bit.
We also went to a coffee shop and a secret garden, we got to try Peruvian coffee (my first cappuccino) which was okay I guess, but I'm not really a coffee person. At the secret garden we tried a Lacana fruit milk shake. Apparently its a very popular fruit and Peru has over 70 varieties of it. The milkshake had a butterscotch flavour to me.
Next was the market were we tried various fresh fruit and fresh sea scallops marinated in lime juice. Some of the fruit was weird but yummy. And the seas scallop was good too. Also, places like here and Europe eat the tongue of the scallop (its orange) but Alyssa and I couldn't bring our selves to do it.
After all that we still hada few things to do. We learned how to make ceviche and a Pisco Sour. Both were easy to make but only one tasted good. The Pisco sour was so strong and bitter I only drank a sip. But the ceviche was pretty yummy and I was pleasently surprised. Plus it was cool that I made it myself.
Out last stop on the tour was the Cala restaurant. It was a fancy restaurant where we got an appetizer, a sea food tasting plate, bread with flavoured butters and dessert. Everything was delicious, even the octopus!
Needless to say when we got back to our hostel we had to take a rest we were basically in a food coma.
To end off our day, Alyssa and I went to the Lacamar mall. It's underground undera park by the ocean. We walked around and looked at all the cool stores. They had a lot of the same stores as us though. We then had supper and a drink on the balcony over looking the ocean. It was a nice treat.
That's all for now. Today we leave Lima and head out on a bus to Paracas. Untill next time, Chow!
