After a refreshing night's sleep (only made possible by opening the balcony door, the window and having a fan on all night -thanks Deb!) we headed into the CBD by bus.
Dean's hair is getting too long for comfort in this heatwave, so he's searching high and low for a reasonably priced barbers. Best price so far? £40 - no deal!
We walked from George St to Darling Harbour passing the skyscrapers of the financial district. Very reminiscent of London with office workers grabbing a bite to eat at a plethora of eateries, but quite a bit hotter!
We boarded the Magistic Cruises tour at Darling Harbour, which then picked up loads of Chinese tourists (presumably visiting for the New Year) at Circular Quay. We
were faced with a choice between an intolerably hot sun deck where we could hear the commentary, or a cool, air-conditioned indoor section where we could not due to the Chinese not-so-whispers :-) We moved several times between the two and caught some of the commentary, and only mild sunstroke (kidding!)
We had a walk round the historic - in Australian terms - district of the Rocks, repeatedly ducking into McDonalds for some air-conditioning. We wound our way back into the CBD and had dinner at the air-conditioned (notice a theme here?) Metro Pub.
We walked back over the Harbour Bridge just in time to see Sting performing an outdoor concert at the Opera House and a giant P&O cruise ship departing Circular Quay.
On the northern side of the bridge is the delightful Kirribilli neighbourhood, full of a host of charming restaurants - each full to the brim with contented looking consumers. Wish we'd waited a while longer for dinner...
