The tsunami wave arrived as expected at a height of only 2.9 feet. Still enough for the authorities to close the beach an pier first thing this morning. So, we thought what better way to pass the time than with a massage. A bit of Internet research revealed that the nearest establishment to our hotel was more like a brothel, so we walked 10 blocks to the more reputable Massa Massa Massage. Seemed OK at the time, but Dean's back was in agony a day later.
As the day went on the pier and beach gradually reopened, so we got the bus to the seafront for our 3:30 open top bus tour departing from the pier. The tour took us along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) to Malibu to see the beach homes of the rich and famous. Pretty dull tour, seeing 0 celebrities, yet our guide still expected between 50 and 100% tip.
We got back to Santa Monica at 6pm on the day that the iPad 2 was released at 5pm. We went to the Apple Store, but was told that the queue outside the store already matche their stock, so Dean couldn't get one
We went for a meal at Gates of India and happened to be going past the Apple Store at 8pm as they were still selling iPads with no queue! People in the earlier line must have given up when their 1st choice sold out. Sadly, Dean's 1st 3 choices weren't available. "Try tomorrow", said one of the Store employees.
