Boxing Day
Helen, Alan, Philip and I spent the day walking around Shibuya, Harajuku and Akihabara. Didn't see any of the crazies dressed up this time- must have been too cold for them. In Akihabara we enjoyed a Big Boi Donner Kebab for lunch- scrumptious!!!! NOTE TO BRUV- I ate it even with all the gunk! Thank god they dont have them in korea- I would be a fatty boom boom! Went to the big electronic markets again and finally got myself an external hard drive for all the crap thats on my poor wee laptop! It was a pretty cold day- made worse by mental wind- not from my kebab I must stress! It never really gets windy in korea so felt a bit wierd, so I was absolutely freezing!
On the Saturday we all headed to Shinjuku- the area that Lost In Translation was based. I totally understand the movie now! MADNESS! I thought Shibuya was busy- pfft! This place apparently has the busiest train station in the world, its huge too! One of the things I noticed about Shinjuku and Tokyo in general is the amount of different nationalities, its def different from korea!!!! I just read tho that there are 107 different nationalities registered in the shinjuku area- thats pretty amazing. I don't think I could live there tho, its just a bit too mental! Concrete city! We also saw the Docomo building which is a copy of The Empire State building but smaller ofcourse- wasn't to be impressed after seeing the real thing! We had a late lunch/dinner at a great wee Thai Buffet for 1,000 yen which is about 7/8 quid. Really tasty!
I have to tell you about a few wee wierd but amazing things I came across in Shinjuku. When Philip was parking....we all had to get out then he drove on to this rotating plate thing then he had to drive into what looked like a garage at the bottom of a sky scraper, he then gets out and the garage door shuts. What happens then its awesome! Easily amused I know.....but it it then lifted up the many floors and stacked!! When you come to collect your car, you give the man your ticket and he punches in your code and like a huge vending machine out comes your car! ASSA!!!
Next thing is the glasses washer thingy! These things are everywhere on the streets. It's like a little cart of containers with different liquids- you pop your glasses in the 1st one and press the button....not sure what the button does except makes a noise but your glasses come out all sparkly then you just rinse them in the water and wipe them dry.
