For some reason this didnt seem like a holiday i felt like blogging about, but have at least captured the below for me to use to reminisce one day ...
Day 1 - Home / KK - Met Tanya & Aron from Switzerland
Day 2 - KK - Gaya Street Market & Sapi Island & Snorkelling - Met Martin from Melbourne
Day 3 - KK / Mt Kinabalu - Met Cami from Belgium & Allister from Scotland, Linda & Intrepid group
Day 4 - Mt Kinabalu / Sandakan - Met noone :-(
Day 5 - Sandakan - Sepilok - Cami again! Marietta who I knew from Brisbane
Day 6 - KK / Sukau - Sandakan War Memorial - Patrick & A... from Switzerland
Day 7 - Sukau - Megan from USA, Kamilla from Poland and Tipo from London
Day 8 - Sukau / KK - traveled with Kamilla & Tipo
Day 9 - KK - Gaya Street Market, Manukan Island & Snorkelling
Day 10 - KK - Tauran Mountain Biking
Day 11 - KK - Mari Mari Cultural Village - Chad from Sarawak (other side of Borneo)
Day 12 - KK (Tarung Aru Beach) - Intrepid dinner
Day 13 - KK (Tarung Aru Beach) - Lok Kawi Zoo - Peter and Romana from Melbourne
Day 14 - KK (Tarung Aru Beach) - Manukan Island - Kate from USA
Day 15 - Home!
Interesting facts / Observations ...
People are more open, liberal and friendly in KK (a lot different from my visit in KL years back)
People in Sandakan stare a lot! Have they not seen that many westerners?!
There are no tuk tuks, but did see some cyclos that werent being used
There is a lot less rubbish on the streets then some other Asian cities
There is a lot of development in KK - it will be completely different and very cosmopolitan if I ever visit again ...
They love to drive big utes! (Isuzu Dmax / Toyota Hilux twin cabs)
There seems to be a good standard of living here
Tours are very expensive, food & accommodation is dirt cheap
A lot of tours will only run if minimum of 2 people & those involving accommodation require a single supplement
They have a problem with Indonesian / phillipine immigrants
A lot of people don't like the current government but they keep postponing the election! (and trying to buy Indo & Phillipino votes!
Rubber trees / tapping used to be good money ... In the last 3 months the demand has dropped to half, seeing the price go from 9-10 ringit per kilo to 4-5 ringit per kilo (global crisis?)
Prawns are so plentiful they cost as much as chicken at some restaurants!
It's not rude to burp in front of people
They're obsessed with their mobile phones (I guess the whole world is!)
They love karaoke bars
They dont point with their finger but with their thumb
They also have 'P' platers
The boys seem to like white girls and call out to them / comment
Some of the men can be a bit forward (e.g an inappropriate massage with an offer of room service & a guy following me up to my hostel room and asking if he can have sex with me!!!)
