We left New Zealand on Wednesday on route to Bali via Singapore. We had a 10 hour stopover in Singapore before continuing on to Bali, so we decided that we would use this time to go into the city and post our large backpacks back to the UK along with our hiking boots, fleece's, sleeping bags and everything else other than we had other than shorts and tee shirts. After much confusion with the woman at the post office, 2 rolls of brown paper and almost a whole role of sellotape our bags were on their way back, they estimate it will take between 8 and 10 weeks to get to the UK, so fingers crossed they make it back.
We arrived in Bali Thursday 15th March at 7pm and it was 30 degrees and really humid. We had a taxi to Legian and stayed the night there, before heading on to Kuta. The drive from the airport to Legian was mad, there appears to be no traffic priorities, it's just everyone for their selves and there are scooters everywhere. Kuta was even worse, I have never seen so many scooters, they seem to outnumber the people, they are parked everywhere. We met a guy from London on the plane and he told us Kuta is the Australians Benidorm.
We wandered around a bit glad we now only had small backpacks as it was really warm and humid, I think it will take a few days to get used to this heat. I have changed my clothes twice today which I won't be able to do every day as I now only have 2 pairs of shorts and 4 tee shirts and no room in my bag for anymore clothes.
Finally found a nice hotel with a pool and a sort of temple thing in the courtyard, a bit of an improvement from the tent :-)
We went to this local place to have some food, near the hotel, Dai had some noodle dish and I decided to have fish and chips, deep fried fish the menu said, so I was expecting a fish with batter, when it came it was the whole fish with no batter, it had just been deep fried in oil, is head was still on and it had huge eyes and all of its fins where also still on it. I couldn't eat it so gave it to Dai, who wasn't bothered by the head or eyes.
Moving onto Ubud tomorrow, this is more the real Bali we have been told, so looking forward to that. There seems to be temple like buildings everywhere, so I have a feeling there will be lots of photos of Dai in front of a temple instead of trees. Have tried to upload some pics but only able to get a few to upload, I think it's the upload speed here, will try again when I next have Internet.

Paul Lines Great to hear from you. Sorry if I didn't have much to say but I was fast asleep when you rang. Good to hear you're enjoying it so much.
Mike I bet NZ seems civilized now? There's not a Kiwi who would give you a WHOLE fish.
