Up at 8 for some breakfast and then get the bus at 9. The buses here it doesn't matter what time you have to be at a destination, they will drive around every inch of the town until the bus is completely full before it properly leaves so for around an hour we were driving round Vang Vieng! All South Koreans literally bar 2 Swedish girls Johanna and Madeliene. I got paired with a South Korean guy for kayaking can't for the life of me remember his or any of their names. He politely informed me with his little English that he can't swim and has never done kayaking. Brilliant! Also, the instructors had said they were just starting their work after just finished training. As I said I had done kayaking before they were looking at me to take the lead which I did. This guy wasn't doing anything so I was doing all the work. Before we set off it will stay with me forever I said as the Nam Song river we were heading down was really strong I said what happens if we capsize? After some initial 'training' he just said 'You capsize, you die!' Ok then cheers mate. So set off and the river was very dangerous at times I regretted it as it was that bad. Worst fears became realised when in the middle of a strong current we hit into a large branch, and capsized. I was holding on to the boat as well as the branch we hit to keep everything together and yelling at the guy to hold on. The current was dragging me under the water and I let go of the boat telling him to just kick his legs as we had life jackets on so just keep going. I was pulling myself up s***ting my pants at the time and then let go to swim against the current and towards where the instructor was waiting for us. Further on another kayak capsized so 3 instructors were pushed to their limits on their first few days of work to be fair! Got to a small main part and the guy was ok, we had our paddles still and were all fine. Scary as f*** experience that pulling under the water was seriously heart in the mouth material especially after the warning the instructor said about capsizing earlier! So we went further on and to be honest that was the worst part of the kayaking. For 20km we just hit the worst part of the river after that it wasn't too bad. We stopped off for some lunch in this random bar on the river got some sandwiches and chicken skewers with a beer. Music was seriously pumping in this place we could barely talk to each other. The South Koreans were lovely talking to and surprisingly spoke pretty good English to me and the girls the only westerners on this day trip. They let us try some South Korean and my days, blew my head off! So we head off a short way to the cave where we would do tubing, great fun tubing I loved it and the caves was good fun the girls made the mistake to where flip flops which proved eventful when walking up the muddy hills inside the pitch black cave with only a head light to see where we were going! Got out and got back in the kayak. The guy I was in a kayak with said his friend wanted to swap with another guy as this guy was really panicking about what happened to us and if it happened to him he wanted me there to be with him I was like I'm not a bloody instructor! But he felt comfortable with me in the boat with him and when we got to the end he was shaking my hand saying thank you which was weird but cool. Finished about 4 and then went back to the hostel for a shower. The girls were staying at the hostel too so shared a beer, a guy from the states Alex sat down and joined us and a girl Ting Ting from the states also so we were in a stupid mood and I said about Gary's Irish Bar so went there for some food, few beers and games of pool. Then we went straight to Sakura started the beer pong at 7! Happy hour was at 8-9 which was FREE drinks. They just lined them up and you choose what mixer you want. Was with a Laos local for a bit called Joy really nice lad turned out he was the DJ for the place adding to his coolness he was laid back as you like. Over happy hour a guy called Shane knew Ting Ting so he joined us and then 4 lads - from Bath! Closest people to home I've seen out here it was a lads birthday today so we were on a mission to get him f***ed got him an awful dirty pint which he done fair play to him. Dancing a lot and on the balloons shock, place shut at half 11 as it does everywhere in Laos so went to a bar called Viva which was open till 2. Bit of a dingy bar we were all hammered so just had a crack in there. Full of lady boys and prostitutes around here as well!
