Woke up just in time for breakfast this morning. Very tasty and a table overlooking the river and snow covered hills.
Thermals on, hat and gloves on, prepared for the cold day ahead.
In the car and head out towards the Geysur and Gulfoss.
Shaky is driving today so I get a break. It's funny watching him go for the gearstick with his left hand. And trying to take his seatbelt off with his left hand. Must have done it 12 times now. Although there's been more snow overnight, the roads aren't too bad. It's weird cos the main roads are either covered in ice or there's nothing on them at all.
Arrived at Geysur. Parked up and walked over the road. Lovely cafe attached to the attraction. Very touristy. There's always a Korean or two to take photos of the two of us, in return for a photo of them. 10 minutes between eruptions. Saw the first one. Ooooooh. Shaky moves 5 feet to the right, another 10 minute wait. Mmmmm. Shaky swaps camera, another 10 minute wait. Oooo. Then he wants one with the sun behind from a distance. Ok, getting a bit bored of this now. Finally we walked back to the cafe for burger (can't have been beef as we have seen no cows) and chips and a coffee. A quick look round the gift shop and shaky buys the obligatory mug and back in the car again.
On to Gulfoss which is a huge waterfall. Only 15 minutes down the road. Wrapped up even warmer now as the wind is now battering us. It's hidden from the road but beautiful when you're near it. Lots more photo taking by shaky, with his long suffering, now slightly frozen wife stood loyally beside him.
Time to make tracks back as it gets dark soon. More icy/ non icy roads, mountain ranges and random houses. It's a very baron country with grassland and mountains. The only wildlife we have seen are horses. No cows, one sheep, one crow. No other birds. Weird. But stunning scenery. No flowers and the only fruit and veg we have seen are in giant greenhouses, illuminated with artificial lighting (either that or it's a cannabis grow house).
Back to Selfoss for a Subway each. Popped to Netto. Expecting Netto prices. Mistaken. £30 for some sweets and crisps and biscuits. It's very expensive to eat here, so looks like Dominos pizza tomorrow. The diet of champions.
We are now in bed, PJ's on watching Live at the Apollo on BBC eating crisps with a brew. Nothing better.
