In HoiAn at the moment, a really pretty Unesco city (a bit like the Luang Prabang of Vietnam), stunning shops (HoiAn is famous for it's tailors) and a pretty river flowing through the town. Today we visited MySon (another Unesco site) where the Hindu ruins remain (although most of them have been ruined following Vietnam war). It was so peaceful here, scenary was magical - somehow a little bit like Machu Picchu, but then again, although it was pretty, not half as impressie as that was!
We visited Hue, about 6 hours north of HoiAn, (again another Unesco site...trip at moment seems to be about ticking these off!) a lot of history from Vietnam war was to be seen here; bunkers, bombed sights etc?although it was very interesting, obviously very sad.
Weather is still unbearably hot, it's in the high 30's and with humidity high 40's?arghhhh? We arrived in HoiAn a few days ago after our journey from Hanoi on the sleeper bus?we didn't have seats?we actually had proper beds! (Tiny mind you?they managed to cram fourty beds into a normal size bus! Not the comfiest of rides!)We had really nice three days up in Halong Bay - the scenery was incredible. Massive rock islands everywhere, the colours and the calmness of the place was very romantic actually! Great to be out of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi too?although everything didn't quite go to plan?firstly, food was'nt that great (they love coriander over here?and when I say love I mean love, they prob use a whole tree in one dish!! Also they loved squid...squid sticks, calamari, fried squid, steamed squid, boiled squid, squid spring rolls...basically there was squid and corriander in everything!) secondly Hel and Sars found a rat in their bedroom?and thirdly, Hels got her head cut open when our boat crashed into another boat?but hey, we still enjoyed ourselfs! oh yeah, and we had a vietnamese massage was a bad idea?.it was horrendous?way worse than any thai massage!!! Heading to Nha Trang tomorrow night on another over night bus...going to spend a couple days there on the beach (although doubt we'l be enjoying the sun either...it's way too hot here) before we head down to Ho Chi Minh...exited about going there, the vietnamese culture and history is so vast and interesting...hope everyone enjoyes show next week...can't believe im missing it...booooo!!!!
