Hi again,
In Bangkok now and LOVING it. Although I'm not usually a huge fan of big cities this place is excellent! (And cheap!) We had a few dramas getting here though, our boat from Ko Phangan to Surat Thani was delayed, overbooked and delayed again so we didn't leave until about three hours after we got to the port! The sea was pretty rocky and so for health and safety (Which I didn't realise existed in Thailand) they docked an hour away from Surat Thani and sent loads of buses to take us there. There were LOADS of us on the boat (I'm sure it was overloaded which is why they had to dock early!) and we waited for another 45 mins before we got on the oldest bus in the world. We made it to Surat Thani and managed to get on our bus to Bangkok though.
We've got another nice hotel (I'm ruined) and spent the day wandering around town. We're staying in Sukhumvit which is away from Kao San Road but still mad! We met a fab tuk tuk driver called Mr. Jo who took us around yesterday (Dad had some suits made) and also took us out and about today.
We went to the floating markets, about an hour away from Bangkok and they were amazing. Loads of tat to buy (Which I resisted!) and loads of nice food (Which I refused to resist!) We floated along in a longtail boat being hooked in by stall owners who pulled the boat right up their stall. There was no escape and my mum ended up buying stuff just to get away! It's not like we could jump off the boat! It was an awesome sight though and we all enjoyed it.
After that we went even further away from Bangkok to see the Bridge Over The River Kwai (No, not the film, the real thing!) There were memorials there for the American POWs who died in the building of the Thai/Burma railway bridge. In reality it was just a bridge (Our driver Pat found it hilarious that we wanted to see it at all!) but the history was interesting (Though I def need to read up more on it, travelling has a way of making you feel a bit ignorant when you don't know stuff!), weather was great and so was the food so I was a happy Shah!
We have 2 more days with the parents before they go back to work and then we are heading to Chaing Mai for a week before returning to Bangkok. So far so good as always!
Hope you are all well
