Bula from sunny Fiji!
I've just returned from 5 days cruising some islands and it's been FAB! We spent a few days in Nadi to begin with, our resort is right on the beach and the food is great! Only downfall for me was like being little orphan Annie in a 34 bed dorm but I survived! We were treated to Polynesian dancing on our first night which was VERY welcome. Half naked (And very attractive) Fijian men dancing with fire and knives. They also had some women spinning fire with the Puys which was amazing. A VERY good dtart to our time in Fiji!!
We (Me, Nicky and Kay) took a big catamaran from Denarau a few days later (Main Nadi port) to the first island of Kuata in the Yasawa group. We passed by lots of tiny islands on the way and paradise is really the only word to describe it (Sorry but it's true! It's not my fault!) White beaches, clear blue sea and LOTS of sunshine. The big catamaran couldn't dock on the little islands so from each resort a little motor boat comes to collect you to bring you in to their island. We were welcomed with a song from the family who ran the resort and then food! Perfect!
The first day on Kuata we literally just pinched ourselves as it was stunning. Decided to waste the day lying in a hammock and looking at the sun! We went sunset fishing in the evening (Caught NOTHING) and then relaxed with some Fijian dancing after dinner.
Next morning I decided to try reef snorkelling, now I've never done it before and had a minor freak out when I got in the water, but a nice Swiss man looked after me till I'd calmed down and it was FAB. I was actually swimming with SHARKS (They were about a metre long) and tropical fish. I couldn't get my breathing right to get right under the water but the views from where I was were awesome enough really! At some points the coral was only a foot or so below the water level and the water was crystal clear. The coral itself was amazing and there was so much other life going on there too! I must admit the sharks did freak me out a bit, when they were circling at the bottom it was cool but as they circled up I made a swift dart back to the boat! Some of the people in the group were touching them and our guide grabbed one but I wasn't quite that brave! I have too much meat on me to risk becoming dinner!!
We left Kuata for Naviti the next day which was a bigger resort but with a nicer beach. I had a swim in the Pacific which was warm! Not quite Portsmouth, and spent the day sunning myself. It's seriously a hard life!
We had two nights on Naviti doing very little! Moving from hammock to beach to pool to bar! We are back in Nadi now for a few nights and planning day trips out to Castaway Island (Where Castaway with Tom Hanks was filmed) and a few others in the Mamanuca group (Closest to the mainland). Other than that we are treating oursleves to some R & R after a mental month on the Magic Bus!
I've got a week left in paradise then I'm flying into Melbourne to start my Oz adventure!
Hope you are all well,
Sel
