Hi all!
We have just left Bolivia after a 3 day trip in a jeep to see the lagoons and salt plains. We stayed in La Paz for one night before heading to Uyuni where there was literally nothing but tourist agencies arranging trips to the salt plains! They were awesome though! The trip was not easy, there were 7 of us plus our (non English speaking) driver Jose and cramped is not really the word! We were with three girls from England (Private school, loaded, spoilt!) and 2 girls from Switzerland (Mad). We got some excellent pics on the salt plains (Salar de Uyuni) and spent the first night in a Salt Hotel which was bizarre to say the least. There was salt all over the floor and walls, even the base of the bed was made of salt! The next day we set off to see more coloured lagoons, red, blue and green I think as well as a volcano which thankfully did not erupt! The second night our tour organiser said we would be staying in a "basic" hostel. By basic I think she meant so cold we thought we might die!! It went down to minus 15 during the night and we had to get up at 5 AM to go to the geysers and hot springs. They were great but it took until about midday for my feet to thaw out. Never been so cold in my life! Slept in thermals, 2 pairs of socks, a t shirt, jumper, fleece, hat and gloves in a sleeping bag with blankets on top....NOT the most comfprtable night of my life but well worth it!
The last day was a LONG drive back to Uyuni stopping off at the Chilean border to drop the English girls off. When we got back to Uyuni it was dinner and then onto an overnight train to head to La Quiaca, the Argentine border. From there we queued for what seemed like 24 hours (Just a slight exaggeration but we were really tired!) to pass through passport control before we got a bus to Salta.
Salta was a cool town, we were accosted but about 8 different hostels as soon as we got off the bus and were rewarded with a cheap double room and a blissfully hot shower! (Bear in mind I hadn{t washed or changed my socks for 4 days...Wendy was very polite though, cheers Geez) We only stayed in Salta one night and got an overnight (23 hour!!) bus to Puerto Iguazu. That{s where we are now, going to see the Iguazu falls tomorrow and then onto Beunos Aires the day after. Once there I refuse to get on another bus or train for a week!!
That{s all for now, hope all is well at home and will TRY and get some photos up soon, I{m not having much luck at the moment!
Adios amigos/amigas
