So when I last bothered to write poor Kirbs was struck down pretty ill with what we can only imagine was food poisoning... From the first day things only seemed to go downhill for the poor love. Tues I hung out in the hostel all day, and had some sleeps (apparently in dire need!) and managed to cancel our Amazon trip with no cancellation fees. No idea how, but I´m thanking St Christopher for his many things he´s sorted out!
Wed morning Kirbs and I thought about getting up but decided to stay in bed til check out 1pm... for some unknown reason (hahaha) I started to come down with tonsilitis so we were both weak and looking pretty average. We´re trying to bring white back in fashion... we decided to make it to Copacobana after some net investigations showed how far everything else was... so we trundled off with me trying to manage mine and Kirbs packs as I was the less sick of us both. We got into a taxi (thankfully the guy at Loki told them where we were going, cause we had no clue!!) and made it to the bus terminal where we jumped on the first bus... admittedly the worst bus of our entire trip so far, but still not anywhere near as bad as I´d been imagining!
The funniest part of the journey (if there was a fun part with both of us feeling like death) was when all the locals got off, and a sailor got on and said something to us in Spanish but the 15 or so tourists on the bus didn´t move... what I got was `todo´, `cruz´and `vamos´which is roughly `all cross go now´or what he actually said which was `you all need to get off the bus, cause we have to cross the lake and you need to go on a different boat´. Very close though! lol
So we made it on and off the boat and all the way to Copacobana! With Kirbs still realy sick I was trying to manage both our big packs, so we decided that the first place we came upon from Lonely Planet was the one we were crashing in... After what seemed like hours of walking (closer to 5-0mins) we found a place that would take us and after an early dinner we were both in bed (with me fast asleep) by 7:30pm... The next day we kicked off a bit late and made it on the 1:30pm boat to Isla del Sol. First we left our big packs at the hostel... Which is where I managed to fall down most of a flight of stairs... In fairness it had been raining, and it was on tiles, but I´m also the clumsiest person to walk the earth, so not altogether surprising. I might have cried had I had more energy but thankfully it appears just to be swollen and bruised... lol
Anyways, Isla del Sol was absolutely gorgeous. It´s a shame that noone mentioned the hike up the mountain to get to the hostels... So, Kirbs and I were enchanted by a 5yr old with perfect English who took us up to his hostel... If we had of both been well, it would have taken us maybe 15 mins... as it was it took us about 30mins to make it to the top with me taking Kirbs pack for some of the way. Luckily Kirbs didn´t throw up in the Inca Spring as it looked like might happen... lol. As soon as we got there it turned out the 18 we were promised was actually 80, but with Kirbs in poor form it could have been 800 Aus... lol. We had a really cruisy night just enjoying the view and making it up a little further to a cute little restaurant where I had dinner (Kirbs not brave enough for food yet!).
Given that we were both exhausted we decided to get up for Sunrise and got up at 6:30 this morning (not such a mean feat given we were in bed by 8:30pm... lol). Well worth it, but will stick to seeing it on my way home from now on! lol. After chilling out for a bit longer in the sun we climbed on board the boat back to come to Copa... it was the longest boat ride of my life and I still feel like I¨m rocking on the boat... lol. Given we were on a lake it shouldn´t have been too bad, but it was time to get off after the 1.5hrs I was prepared for... Getting off the boat was not without it´s dramas though as I (somehow) managed to lose my sleeping bag over the side of the boat... lol. Thankfully they had a big stick on the boat, so they pushed it to shore, but that baby is DEF being dry cleaned in Cuzco!!! Lol. Lunch was spent trying to stay in the sun with the hopes of it drying off, but it didn´t go quite as well as planned... At least after COPIOUS amounts of sleep (and some penicilin!!!) the tonsilitis is all gone, and leaving me fit and ready for some more fun times!
Tonight we cruise into Cuzco where we hopefully catch up with Fiona, Andrew, Damian and Alex before they head off on the next leg of their trips!
Miss you and love you all heaps, hope you´re staying out of more trouble than me! lol
